Gasquet's Chances, and others outside the top 4

I have always been a Gasquet fan, as depressing as that may be
Can Gasquet beat tipsarevic?
Will he ever break the top 10 this year or ever again?

Who else is on the rise/ comeback rise?

I think the 5-15 ranking spots are rotating out.

Guys falling out:
Simon
Monfils
Dog-man
Ferrer, I think falls out of the top 8 by the US open time
Almagro
Soderling (injury is going to crush his ranking)
Fish

coming in hot:
Del Po, I think he got a chance at getting into the top 5.
I think Tsonga edges Murray in the rankings by the years end.
Gasquet should break the top15
Raonic " "
Nishikori has a wild card shot at getting in?
Berd man to take a top 5 spot?

Thoughts? Will we ever see a legit top 10 or 5 USA player?

Absolutely love watching Gasquet. His backhand is something to behold. I want him so badly to succeed as he's got so much talent at his disposal, but unfortunately the pieces of the puzzle that is his game aren't connected together.

Despite having all the shots (I suppose his serve could be more dangerous) his mentality is a little odd. He has the makings of being a great aggressor and yet retreats so far behind the baseline for no apparent reason - whats up with that?

He's got a good chance of beating Tipsy. I've not seen either play this week but I'd say its 50/50. I know who I'll be supporting though :p

On another note, can't wait for Delpo to get back to full fitness and back to the top 10, he adds another dimension to this brilliant era of men's tennis. Maybe he can make a run in this tournament, but I doubt seeing him beat Roger in the quarters.

I've been a Gasquet fan since 2003 when he started. But in recent years his game has changed a lot. He's so defensive now and often just loops short balls over. His backhand too is just a weak shot now, nothing like what it used to be...he just rolls them back cross-court often whilst falling backwards. Very very rarely does he go for a big backhand now, especially down the line.

he's not been so bad this week so far at all with defensive play is playing much more in the court and has been going for winners on both sides. So nice to see.

His forehand is so much better when he goes for the angles.

Did you watch him in Hopman Cup or this week? He's really crushing the backhand and serving well

I did watch him at the Hopman cup in all his matches. I also watched most of his match against Tipsy and I can tell you he does not play like he used to. Just youtube Gasquet Gonzalez highlights Australian Open 2009 and you'll know what I mean. The last time I've seen him play agressively was the first two sets against Murray at Roland Garros 2010. Played amazingly and Murray couldn't do anything. I have no idea why he doesn't play like that now.

Gasquets talent is overrated. I always felt Monfils and Tsonga both had more potential than he had. Yeah he has a pretty backhand but what does that add to as far as being a super dangerous or effective player.

It is funny how while most feel Ferrer isnt super talented (for elite standards) and has overachieved to even make the top 5 one could easily say he might be more talented than Gasquet. The gap in their abilities is alot larger than the gap between their talent, but Ferrer might be ahead even in talent alone. He certainly has more talent to hit a forehand, more overall athletic talent, more natural speed, more natural competitive instincts and knowledge how to play the game and construct points, better hand eye coordination and returning talent. Gasquet really only has more talent to hit a backhand, more natural feel, and more talent around the net.

Just goes again to show vastly overrated Gasquets so called talent is.

Disappointed by Gasquet often as always. Granted he would have been much better player in 70s - 90s. Games got too physical running match but I'm very disappointed by his effort level. Ferrer is the ultimate lithmus test for your effort level.

He is too much of a talent to be wasted like this. It's sad.
