Geezer Throwdown: Volkl 4 Super G vs Volkl V1 OS

Can anyone contrast the two frames in the title? V1 OS vs. Super G 4.

Tennis Maverick are you out there?

They are right next to each other in the Volkl lineup. Brittany from TW said in another thread that they were interchangeable. I see subtle differences in beam, grommet and shock absorber pin design. Is it a wash?...your thoughts...

I am seeking a competitive stick for age 35+ 4.0-5.0 summer epic heat battles in singles and doubles.

My reference stick is the V1 Classic customized to 340g strung.

I am seeking an xl stick that will come in a little lighter. Think PD+ without the arm issues.

Feelings?

Hey Fed.........the SuperG4 or X4 is a wonderful stick.
The main difference between it and the V1 OS is that the OS has a thicker beam and is slightly larger hoop size. The OS has more power. The Super G4 has a nice blend of control and power and IMO is less powerful than the PD. The X4 is also less stiff feeling.
I found the V1 OS a little clunky and thick, wereas the X4 retains some semi-players stick qualities.

So I take it you are not a fan of the v1? Does the 4 maintain the crazy stability to weight ratio of the v1 series?

Played a match with the v1 OS demo, very impressed. The extra length really comes through on serves.

Next up is the super 4. If it doesn't wow me, the OS will be my new stick.

Not at all. I like the V1 OS as well. They are actually pretty similar as you eluded to. Be interested to hear which one you prefer. I think you will find
the 4 to be a little more "player-ish".

Doesn't have extra length, but I love the Super G 7. Didn't like the Organix versions, light or heavy, but this one I feel like Brittany and Chris -nothing to dislike. Will also try the Super G V1 OS soon.

Yeah that 7 looks like a winner. I think I am in too deep with the v1 series, I am hoooked on the gummy bears feel.

After todays light shootaround I like the v1 os more. It just feels more solid.

I agree. After running through play tests of most of the Volkl line, this one surprised the heck out of me. Probably the most playable "game improvement" OS I have ever played. I am not crazy about the PJ -- no racquet should be painted brown. It gets everything else right for this type of design.

I dont get flyers with the OS, even with the crummy demo string. Another strange thing about v1s is that I dont seem to lose spin when stringing with soft string.

The one I tried was blue, but yeah, did not have to hold back on my strokes at all.

Then get the SuperG. It's blue.

I agree about the horrible brown of the Organix. Why would anyone want a brown racquet? Would u buy a brown car?

"Tweezer" = Geezer Tweener :)

FedK u should also check out the Prince Textreme Warrior 107 before settling on the V1 OS. It's in this same exact group of racquets, but I think it's the best of the bunch.

Its tempting. I like the specs. One thing that drew me towards the volkl os was the 27.5 length... It really adds bang to the serve.

Im also hooked on the v1 feel. That deluxe gumminess is back with this super G.

How do you find serving with the prince?

Yes that extra leverage u get with that extra 1/2" does add more zing to the serve. The warrior 107 serves very good too. I know what u mean about that Volkl gummy bear feel. I used to play with the V1 Mp for a while.

When I played it, only the Organix was in production. Nice that you are not stuck with monkey-**** brown (WTF were they thinking?). It really is a swell racquet. I felt the least need to seriously modify my strokes with the V1 OS than any other racquet of its ilk. Every Volkl Super G version I have tried has been better than the previous incarnation for me.

I have a few miles left on the clock before I go with the V1 OS. I recently switched from my longtime Fisher Pro No 1's to the Volkl Organix 8 Super G. But something that provides even more of an assist will likely be in my future at some point. Only a question of when and longevity.

What do you think about the eight series Volkl? I tried an old aero pro drive but unfortunately strung like a trampoline... So not for me but the idea of something less taxing than a 12.2 oz low powered minimal sweet spot racquet seems very tempting.... :)

Great racquet IMO. Plays nothing like any APD or PD I have played. You really need to demo for yourself to appreciate the all around performance. Here's the TW review, I think they got everything spot on.

Great! There were something "sterile" to the APD frame I couldn't put my finger on. Totally lacked feedback from it. That's why the 8 seems tempting.

Have you tried the SG4? And in that case how does it compare to the SG8? Intrigued by the extra length and big sweetspot...

Sorry for all the Q:s... :-)

When I have demoed all of the volkls I'm gonna write a thread about them and comparisons. :-)

I played with the Organix 4, but not the SG4 but they are the same dimensionally. The SG4 is definitely a "game improvement" racquet IMO. It is bulbous looking with its 25mm beam/head width (the SG8 is 23mm). Not nearly as maneuverable as the SG8, and not just because of its extended length. It doesn't have the feel or precise control capabilities either. Decent comfort, easy to hit with and good spin for me -- plus it is a very forgiving racquet -- no complaints on these counts, but still not my cup of tea. These racquets are really in different categories.

As i suspected! Thanks very much for the info! And the 7 series seems to be in between I gather? Also, V1 series, everyone says it's got a feel of it's own but I suspect I have to demo the v1 pro to really get what people are saying. Demo ahoy!! :-)
