Genderless draws in tennis

To make things absolutely equal between male and female tennis players, the ATP & WTA should merge and have one tour. Men and women should be drawn to play against each other then there will be no issues regarding equal prize money and it wouldn't matter whether they played Bo3 or Bo5 sets in slams for the same prizemoney.

It can't be more equal than that.

Is this a lowkey hate on Serena post?

She wanted to be treated the same as the superstar mens players so she should just play on the mens tour?

No. I watched this video yesterday where it was suggested that Serena could be the Greatest Tennis Player of all time including the men and it occurred to me that they might as well just have one tour to determine who is the overall GOAT if there can be such a thing.

Well, that was Billy J. King's dream, she keeps claiming to this day. If/when that happens, the normal women will do what they always do, and grit their teeth, and say "thanks for nuthin', feminists".

Do the same in UFC, boxing etc.

Would you also be against weight classes in boxing so that guys like roy jones and mayweather get killed by heavyweights like klitschko or lewis? (Or whoever the current versions of them are, I stopped following boxing)

Btw I don't think serena was treated in a sexist way but that doesn't mean that historically women have been treated unfairly and they don't deserve equality.

Also the argument that men are better is stupid. Tennis players are not paid for winning tennis matches but for drawing crowds and tv viewers.

Btw the women's final in this years uso drew a higher rating than the men's final. Of course this was mostly because only one had an american participant but it shows they deserve the money.

it would be very cool to see women play against the men.. some would be in the top 500..700..something..but, it would be an excellent challenge..

No tennis fans would watch this merging of the ATP/WTA which means empty stands, no work for the players, no pay and sponsorhips for either.

Can't get more equal than that!! :p

I've often thought of this. It would benefit both tours as there would be more "stars" at any given tournament. I don't think having genderless draws would be good though. I enjoy watching the women play but the thought of watching Agnieska Radwanksa getting drubbed by Milos Raonic doesn't appeal to me.

Here's a better idea. Everyone at any match always cheers for the player who is behind because everyone wants to see a final set (3rd or 5th). So why not reward players for giving us what we want? Pay every player a bonus for sets/games won regardless of the match outcome. The winner of course gets a bigger payoff (because they won) and a chance to do it again while the loser gets rewarded for a good effort and giving the fans what they want.

This would also allow lower ranked players to earn a little more cash and would probably increase the competitiveness of the tour.

Come to think of it if they merged the tours only men would compete in all the tournaments unless they give the women WCs because I doubt any female player would be in the top 150. I admit to that, even though I'm a woman. It is what it is.

Just Google Karsten Braasch. Women have no chance even against lower ranked men.

But then again sugar ray leonard would have been killed by vitali klitschko and nobody said he was an inferior boxer

They can merge the tours and still have seperate draws. If you look at the calendar the most popular tournaments are the ones where both genders are present.

No the physical differences are just to big. Read just now that the son of Stefan Holm the 2004 olympic gold medalist in high jump did 2.04 and he is only 13 years old. That is world class by top women standards and it puts the differences into perspective.

I remember that. It's why genderless draws have no chance of ever being implemented. It's also the same reason why we have the Challenger and ITF circuits. There is no benefit to watching unequal players competing. No one wants to see me play basketball against LeBron because it wouldn't even be a game. I can see it now: he dribbles down the court and...the defense is actually inviting him to drive the hoop and score because he doesn't want to get crushed by a 200lb behemoth.

The women might kick the heterosexual men’s butts by dressing extremely provocatively for matches. It would be anarchy everywhere.

Wozniacki would become the GOAT.

Yes, with all due respect to the women, it would be a massacre. I forgot where I saw that video, but every poster that identified as a woman said the same thing.

I would actually love to see a serious match between a male and a female player of equal standing. Say Sasha vs Wozniacki. Or a female player against any professional male player.

Why? The result would be NID. It would prove nothing that we don’t already know.

I would be rooting hard for Woz but we all know she’s eating bagels in that match. No one would be surprised.

Can you remind me of recent men players who have insulted an umpire without getting a warning (YES! Calling an ump is a BIG insult)?

The "EQUALITY' Card is just hurting the "cause".

Which would TTW'ers prefer:

Federer v. Mrs. Williams, Bo5?

-or-

Nadal v. Mrs. Williams, arm wrestling showdown?

Would be a very interesting experiment. At the very least it would test McEnroe's assertion that Serena Williams could never rank higher than #700 if she played on the men's tour!

That would be fun. NOT.

Did you forget this little nugget of history?

http://www.marca.com/en/more-sports/2017/06/27/595296da468aeb99218b464c.html

No. 203 sweeps Williams
At the height of the Williams boom in 1998, an unofficial game took place in Australia after Serena and Venus claimed that no male player outside the top 200 could beat them.

Up stepped a German known as Karsten Braasch who was ranked 203rd in the world and after first beating Serena 6-1, he then disposed of Venus 6-2.

"I didn't know it would be that difficult. I played shots that would have been winners on the women's circuit and he got to them very easily," said Serena.

"They wouldn't have had a chance against anyone inside the top 500 because today I played like someone ranked 600th to keep it fun," was Braasch's assessment.

And the dude was smoking Cigs and drinking booze on changeovers
