Tim Henman expects Holger Rune to be next maiden Grand Slam winner

Tim Henman believes Holger Rune will be the next maiden Grand Slam winner on the ATP Tour.

Henman thinks Rune will follow Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in overtaking other top stars to claim a major title very soon.

Henman said: "Holger Rune is going to be knocking on the door pretty soon. There are still areas that he needs to improve on, but there's plenty of good stories on the mens side. Zverev, Tsitsipas, and Rublev have won big tournaments now, but I wonder whether Holger Rune will overtake them."

"The next man to win a maiden Slam, I think will be Holger Rune at some stage. His athletic ability, his ball striking off both wings, and I like his confidence and his belief.
I think he can perhaps rub people up the wrong way at times, but I think that's because he's got that desire to make it happen."

"He'll definitely be one I'll be looking out for. If it doesn't happen in 2024, then I think there's every chance it could happen in 2025."

For all that Rune is struggling a bit at the moment, it's got to be one of him, Zverev, or Tsitsipas who is the most likely maiden slam winner at this point. As the others have failed for a long time, I can understand Henman's reasoning. I would probably say that Zverev is the most likely of the three to win a slam in 2024, but the most likely to win a slam at some point could well be Rune.

What British ATP player is more likely than Rune to win a slam, that's what genius Tim was discussing. The highest ranked player from the UK is Andy Murray.

Fed didn't have the composure to win a slam until he was almost 22, Lendl couldn't do it till he was 24. It's true that Brat has zero composure right now, but just you wait!

Mouratoglou, Becker, Luethi Some coach will impart grand wisdom to him at some point.

He’s not winning a grand slam at an age younger than Sinner. Just eliminate that fact out of your head
 
Well I think it's a pretty obvious pick Holger will be the next maiden slam winner. Tsitsipas, Zverev, Rublev, Auger-Aliassime, Ruud, Hurkacz, De Minaur, Fritz don't look like players who can win slam at the moment. Actually out of that group, I think maybe the first 4 have some chances in the future, but maybe in few years, like Wawrinka winning his maiden slam at almost 29 years of age.

The next few slams, let's say untill the end of 2026, will be taken by Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev or Nadal, with maybe Holger getting one. Either way, he's gonna get it sooner or later, and I doubt guys like Shelton, Musetti, Fils or any other next gen player will get it before Rune.​
 
I would pick someone from the group of Tsitsipas, Zverev, Ruud winning a Slam before Rune - those guys have been good enough to make it to Slam finals, Olympic finals, ATP YEC finals etc. and have won the Olympics/YEC. Rune has to fix his mental issue of not being able to maintain his intensity throughout full matches before I can see him winning 7 Bestof5 matches.

90s-borns have shown they don't have the confidence/belief to win slams, so Henman is predicting Rune to be the next man to win his maiden slam.

Rune is 20.

For pro athletes, the age differential is huge.

None of these guys made any slam finals at 20, none made an Olympic final at 20, none made any YEC final at 20. Rune has never had the chance to even play in the Olympics, he's too young.

What kind of analogy is this, comparing guys 5-7 years older in accomplishments to a kid?

Lol Zverev had 2 masters at this age, had reached #3 and was nautical miles ahead of Rune at this same age, how many slams does he have?

You are delusional it’s funny. His career trajectory is poor and you’ll see it. By 2025 he’ll be facing peak 24 year old Sinner and peak 22 year old Alcaraz and mauled by them.
 
Rune won't win anything. It is clear that his fangirl will think so, but this is wishful thinking. Can take it as seriously as octobrina's statements regarding Nadal.
