Federer could probably beat Gasquet or Youzhny blindfolded but Federer is not winning W this year. Last year I had a feeling based on his form that he had a chance to win it, this year I would be very surprised if he made it past the QF or SF depending on his draw. I can't see how he will win W this year.

Last year win based on form ? played poorly in RG ending up in losing to djoker in straights .

He lost to haas in straights in halle, went to 5 vs benneteau in 3R @ wimbledon, was 2 points away from losing the match several times, had back problems . was ambling around in the next match vs malisse .

that form made you feel like he was likely to beat djokovic/murray back to back to win it ?

He had won so many other tournaments early last year that I felt you could not write him off at W where he has been so successful in the past. This year, I don't get that vibe at all and I would be surprised if he made it past the QF or SF, depending on his draw. I don't see how he will beat an in form Murray or Nadal at W if they should meet, not to mention the fact that I am not sure he would beat Berdych or Tsonga or maybe others?

For me how he does in Halle means nothing--the field is pretty weak there.

I'd just like to point out that the head extreme pro 2.0 is an amazing racket and we have two men in the semifinal facing off with the same PJ.

Second final of the year for Fed. The good news for him is that he has more chances of winning it than the 1st one :) (easy to have more chances than 0!)

yeah, he was pretty good in the early part of the year, but his form deteriorated from rome onwards .

apart from djoker/murray/nadal, you wouldn't place anyone above him as a fav for wimbledon, would you ? so, I don't see why he doesn't have a shot.
what he needs to do is to survive till the semi and then play 2 excellent matches. (3 if he faces tsonga/berdych in the quarters )

as far as halle is concerned, he needs it to win a title and gain some confidence at the very least. not that it is indicative of how he will/can do at wimbledon.

I hope so. He hasn't won in a while and almost needs this tournament victory to 'get the winning feeling back'. It would be a blow for Federer should Haas do a job on him in this match; a bitter medicine to swallow. Federer needs to spit out some gushing forehands and control the match so that he can reverse the trend of last years final.

My advice was followed and Mirka is relieved, not sure she's into those kind of things.

No, I think the oddsmakers have it correct with Roger in fourth place to win W.

Sure he has a shot but I don't think it is a good shot. Of course I hope I am wrong.

How can he not have a good shot? It's grass and he's the title holder + he should be fresh given that he hasn't done much this season. He just has to avoid Nadal, that's all  (call the organizers and ask for Rosol, Brands, Isner or equivalent to clutter Rafa's early rounds lol)

I just don't feel like he has a good shot this year based on his entire form since the AO. As I said, I hope I am wrong. He looks old and slow to me out there.

His serve is gonna be key. 15 aces in the Haas match, not bad. But 64% 1st serve could probably be improved on. He had 67% on grass last year. His return % has been excellent in Halle, much better than last year.

Youzhny is simply not making any errors, be it technically or strategically. Gasquet isn't there. With the double break, it can quickly end with a breadstick.

I agree. He's got a chance obviously, but he'll have to step it up for sure.

I'm not surprised by Youzhny - Gasquet outcome, frankly.

I've seen him throughout the tournament and I can easily say his performance has been pretty solid from the start.

Since his match against Kohli, I expected him to go as deep as the final here. And who knows? with the kind of performance Federer delivers these

days, Youzhny definitely has a shot to win the title.

2011: Hewitt
2012: Haas
2013: Youzhny?

I wonder if Roger will gift another one of his pigeons the title?

actually 2010 was hewitt, kohlscreiber was 2011 . federer didn't play in 2011.

and no, he's not letting this one go, IMO . youzhny has won a grand total of 3 sets in 14 matches vs federer.

So we have ... Roger and Misha Youzhny in the final? I feel like I'm having a little trouble following the scores today.

youznhy was impressive against kohlshreiber and gasquet...

Whenever I think of Federer Youzhny I always think back to when Roger beat him in 2011 barely celebrated at all, and pulled a facial expression afterwards (while walking to the net to shake hands) as if to say, 'not all is well (physically)'.

Perhaps I should be more positive and think more about the fact that as recently as 2012 he beat Colonel on the way to a Wimbledon triumph.

Hey his Wimbledon 10 year vids were amazing.

ِAbsolutely true .. The last one in the series (7th) is the best of the best IMHO

I almost cried to the Inception music in the start with Tsonga's 2011 win over him. That moment never fails to crush me to the bone.

Well thanks, of course these are encouraging words and there will be a part 8 but depending on how Roger does it will either be for this year or wait till next (Because if he say, goes out at quarters, I won't see this as enough material to use to make a full video part).
