Getting great spin from 2hfh?

Semi-Pro
Dominant hand grip: Eastern backhand
Opposite grip: eastern backhand

I tried this for about 2 weeks and I find myself never missing now. I cant really hit winners, but this forehand is MUCH more consistent than my 1hfh. I also get crazy spin from it. My rally shots are really less vulnerable for attackers. Also, I don't switch my grips for my bh. ANyone else use this?

I use to play like this a long time ago when I played in highschool.

Yes, my shots were much more consistent and I could place my shots exactly where I wanted to and hit sharp angled shots for winners quite easily.

The problem is that it slows you down when you have to run for a hard get and it also shortens your reach on your back hand. Also, I don't think you can generate as much power as you can with a one handed forehand.

I was a lot weaker (strength wise) back when I played like this, but I managed to make my highschool varsity tennis team in my sophemore year of highschool without any prior tennis instructions/lessons.

You'll soon find that at any competitive level, once you get warmed up for a match, the smart opposition consistently MAKES you hit one handed, by going really wide, shortangled, drop shots, low lobs, and shots hit directly into your body.
Most two handers can't run down the ball, most can't move and cover as well as Seles in Womens, or Bartoli, and constantly need better physical speed or just plain more winners......something you express you don't have.
In mens tennis, you find some very good two handers, but most specialize in doubles only.
OTOH, play with your best strokes now, practice with both, and soon, you'll find your niche in the forehand world.

by EBH on the dominant hand I think he means Western forehand. And when it comes time to hit a backhand it flips to a EBH.

Before '77, I played with a double eastern forehanded 2 handed backhand.
Since I'm almost ambi, that allowed an eastern forehand off both wings, giving consistency in height of the return ball.
As I got to B levels, maybe 4.5, I'd get run wide and low from DTL slices and flat crosscourts, so I started using a conti dominant hand 2 hander to slice the returns back.... also, the volley became essential, and a conti dominant grip allows easy approach and consistent gripping.
Confused thos I was, imagine the confusion from the opponent who couldn't figure out where to attack, and topspin lobs came from all locations, along with heavy topped low angles, and lotsa mishits and misses.....

I keep finding the 2HFH more interesting as I hear more of it. I don't get the limted reach thing, though. When stretched, can't you just take one hand off of it and hit a one handed forehand, especially considering that your dominant arm is on the bottom grip and already in a forehand grip?

I did try it out a week ago, and it REALLY felt akward with my non-dominant arm coming ALL the way across my body and on top of my other hand.

I do love my 2 handed backhand though and if I could replicate that feel, I would try out the 2HFH without a doubt....
