Getting Red Clay Stains Out

I just played my first ever tourny on red clay (I've played Har Tru events for years) and my previously white Barricades aren't so white anymore - there are also some stains on my shirts/shorts. Are these going to come out by just washing them or if not, does anyone have any tips to help get it out?

red clay stains are COOL. leavem in your clothes (as long as its red clay), you'll look like a dirtballer. i played on clay and it stained my nike air revives and i like the look.

Us Euro guys love this look :D

Forget about it, it's very very hard to wash out - if not impossible

I have red stains on my shoes, socks and at the left pocket on all my tennis shorts - it's just a part of how you look like, when playing on a lot of red clay tennis courts  ............. I kind of like it :)

For the shoes, you are screwed, live with it.

For the clothes, you can soak them in a bucket with clothes bleach (i.e. the coloursafe kind) for a day and then wash and it comes out fine normally, that said I normally do this pretty much straight away after playing.

Hope it helps

really leave it alone. I have gray stains on my clothes and shoes and alos "ground" into the bummper of my rackets from playing on har-tru clay courts. people will look at you and think "what do know a guy who actualy plays tennis". come on we'er "doctors of the dirt".

If clay stains are a bother, think about wearing only colored tennis clothing when you play on clay (not white and with few white accents). They're pretty much permanent stains, because I don't think bleaching is much of a solution when bleach strains the fabric integrity of the garment as a whole. That said, if you wear navy or black or royal blue clothes, the stains are much, much less noticeable if at all.

Agree with the above posters, too. Look around at your local courts and you'll see that the most stained players are the better, more avid players, including the instructors. If they ever cared, they've gotten past the hump of worrying about it and just worry about their games.

I also agree with the others. The look is cool. People will think that you spent the last three months in Europe playing with the best clay courters. You'll definateley stand out. I don't know why you shirt would have clay on it but as for your shorts, if they are cotton , you're screwwed. If they are of the new synthetic materials, my have always washed clean. as for the shoes, look at it as an opportunity to buy new sneakers and make the ones with red clay on them your "red clay sneakers" I play on all surfaces, Hrd, hartru, and red clay and I have a sneaker for each. it gives me an excuse to buy and try diifferent sneakeers.

One other point, if you go to the US open qualifying rounds, you will see that many of the european, south american palyers all have red clay on their sneakers. Many of the sneakers company don't want to give them new sneakers unless they qualify knowing that many of them won't and will return to the futures and challengers tournys in eaurope and SA.:)

Haha, I appreciate it but I think I'm going to have to pass on the urine treatment. Looks like I'm SOL here; I'll just get some new Barricades before the season starts in the fall. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
