Gilbert says Nadal is the best wind player of all time ....do you agree?

I think he may just be the greatest wins player necaise of his topspin.....

But by the same token he is not all that great if an indoor player and why I think he lost the AO to joker .

Usually, yes. The one match that makes me doubt is when he lost to Federer at 2012 Indian Wells. In that match, Federer dealt with the wind a lot better than Nadal.

Federer is a very good wind player.

It could be that wind interferes with Nadal's shots more as they have a higher margin above the net vs. Federer's, whereas Federer's shots penetrate more.

Wind doesn't severely impede half of Nadal's usual game plan (hitting heavy, high-margin rally balls), while it actively helps the other half of the plan (drawing errors out of the opponent), so it's no wonder he adapts better to wind than most.

Not sure about this.

I don't think he is, especially after Indian Wells 2012. Could be a one off bad experience, because no player can always play well in the wind, but it's hard to be sure, unless you are court side a lot.

The Federer match at Indian Wells maybe casts doubt on that, but I do remember Nadal playing a brilliant match in the wind against Murray once (maybe IW 2009?). Either way, I think Agassi's probably the best wind player I've seen.

No. I think Murray is great in the wind. The wind gave him a US Open and also because Djokovic struggles in the wind.

Everyone is allowed an off day.

Rafa wasn't even playing that well that match.

Well, common sense dictates that Nadal is the best wind player of all time simply because his game has a higher margin for error so would be least offset by wind. That being said in terms of dealing with the wind without ALREADY having a big margin is Federer. He's a master at it, IW 12 and USO 04 v/s Agassi proved it.

Agassi is unquestionably the best wind player ever, but the original premise for this thread is a misquote by TDK as usual. He said something more along the lines of "Nadal is the best wind player since Agassi." In any case, I don't agree with him.

I think Federer and Agassi are both better wind players than Nadal.

I would have said Nadal too until I saw the Indian Wells match with Roger. Nadal looked all out of sorts with that wind

Yes he is, thanks to his FH with massive topspin his groundstokes are more safe, i remmber his F in IW vs Murray in 2009 in windy conditions how he toyed with him.
