Gilles Simon and Medvedev mutually decided to stop working together.

Bottom line is that Medvedev's just got worse since Simon came on board. Basically Medvedev started playing like Simon and it's not working.

I always thought he was like Simon 2.0. I guess with Simon he reverted back to the 1.0 version.
Never thought medvedev and Simon were similar. Grand slam champion and success of medvedev would never be what it was today if they were the same.

Felt medvedev was more like Murray and Hewitt. Not as talented but similar.

I mean Simon's playing style was just super steady flat, get every ball back. That's what Meddy is except he's better at everything. Hence 2.0.

It was a boneheaded decision to team up with Simon. Med doesn't need lessons in pushing. He needs somebody who can mould his aggressive instinct. That's the only way he'll end his title drought.

How can you possibly know when or what to post let alone properly certify other posts if you aren’t receiving timely information on all things tennis related. This needs to be fixed ASAP. The soul of TTWs very limited to non-existent democracy is at stake.

A real shame.

Question is, why on earth did he hire Simon in the first place. RuZZian needs offensive game, his defence is already stellar. He desperately lacks a killing shot and serve has regressed significantly due to hernia and shoulder injury
Medvedev is about tactics. His IQ is never and should never be in question. That’s probably why he hired Simon.
He under estimates his aggressive/offensive skill set though. He’s shown it but he just looks uncomfortable when he approaches the net.

Just bc Simon was your regular tour counter puncher with what seemed no offensive approach, doesn’t mean he wouldn’t encourage an offensive approach. I mean Brad Gilbert was like Simon on tour and he turned out ok as a coach. Maybe not suited for todays game.

It was an experiment but med moved off him quickly.

I’m hoping he considers a partnership with Goran. His serve can use plenty of work in my opinion.

He’s proven he can beat one of sinner or alcaraz in a GS event.

However like in USO final - he looked gassed after beating alcaraz in the semis to beat Nole.

Then the 5 setter against Jannik in Wimb 2024 - he wasn’t able to beat Alcaraz next.

I think med had the perfect t game plan in that 2024 AO final but his legs were just too tired from the 5 setters prior. In GS events - the key to staying fresh is limiting the 5 setters early in the tournament. Doesn’t matter how fit you are. It catches up to you recovering for only 24 hours til the next one.

Tell me 1 title Medvedev has won in the last 12-18 months

0. Where did I say he was winning any?
He’s proven he can beat a top player at an event like sinner or alcaraz. But that was at Wimbledon. He hasn’t proven he can beat both which is what he’ll have to do.

Lately , as I stated before in another thread you failed to comprehend, I can see him pulling a Roddick and retiring young.

Not too long ago - he stated he wasn’t enjoying tennis.

I understand this was a bit of a long reply. Hope you can comprehend that no where I stated with this level of play, that he’ll win a grand slam soon.

Simon would be a good coach for someone playing Kamikaze tennis like Shelton, but in the case of Daniil we all knew he wasn't going to add much to his game.
I felt Shelton started to improve in terms of point construction throughout Australian open. But watching him against sinner, he’s far away from getting to the grand slam champion level.

Sinner is crushing everyone right now on hardcourt. There’s nobody close right now from the baseline. He’s the new Djokovic. We will see if clay changes anything.

How many slams you feel Sinner will win?
Hard to say/tell. Still need to wait on WADA decision as he could face 2 months to 2 years suspension for two failed PED tests with a quite unusual story.

Other factors are upcoming talented players developing into challengers to Sinner and Carlos. Both sinner and Alcarez are young. Sinner has the higher tennis IQ with more variety to his game. If Fonseca becomes what he’s expected he’ll probably join the Big 2 and form a next gen top 3.
I know folks will criticize me on saying there’s still hope for Holger Rune. But he’s still 21 years old. He’s got the talent to compete with Jannik and Carlos. Hard to officially write him off when he’s looking to improve.

I think anywhere from 10-15 slams is achievable. Will talk about more if he’s sitting at 10 slams entering 2028. (It’s possible).
He’s already a HOF player at 22-23 years old.
Tough to say he’ll win 20. That’s already putting him in the Fed-Novak-nadal category which I’m not ready to do yet. It’s also not common you see players win slams deep into their 30s and maintain a high level of play against next generation talent groups consistently either.

But knowing you, you won’t factor in the potential variables and write off my analysis and projection and say I have no idea what I’m talking about lol.

Med, like Thiem, ( RIP to the Hapsburg dynasty) , has too much arm action on his shots, raise that SW young man, let the racquet do the work.

Maybe because he had those physical problems?

Watching tennis channel this morning - med’s comments after the match revealed he barely played much in the offseason after Turin. He and his wife welcomed a baby girl and then spent time with family with little practice.

Med was looking burnt out after us open last year. It’s getting worse to start 2025 on court. He was dealing with shoulder issues most of 2024.
You see him stringing rackets that consist of Poly/gut, gut/poly, razor code full. Razor soft full. Confidence is at an all time low in his game, especially when you’ve spent over a year changing string setups every tournament.

You think he expected Sinners dominance over him?

Anyone who watched sinner early on saw raw potential. But idk what this has to do with the current slump/potential decline of medvedev’s play?

Most of daniils losses LY came at the hands of sinner or alcaraz deep into tournaments.

Now it’s early in tourneys.
