The news was that he is suing the victim. Hardly seems like the end of story.

There is no announcement from Tennis Channel either which says he will not be employed again, nor any announcement from the ATP or USTA about use of his production company.

Matter is very far from being over. He is just biding his time and will try to come back using his network of contacts.
It also seems that Gimelstob is connected enough that he'll never be far removed from involvement in the ATP/USTA/Tennis Channel. If you're established and "respected" enough, you can influence things indirectly to a huge extent.

Jon Wertheim , in his weekly Mailbag column, still refused to back down from his "wait and see" attitude about Gimelstob. He included a long, rambling tweet full of legalese. Vito Gimelstob did not rape anyone, but what would you be saying if it was your father or brother that was attacked trying to trick or treat?
That question is easy but I don’t think that’s the relevant question.

What would you be saying if you had known him for 20+ years and was a long time work colleague and may know more of the backstory. That’s the question.

Or in the case of Isner, coach and friend (and also privy to more information then the general public has.)

I don’t support JG but I can see how others would either support him (JI) or take a more nuanced view (JW), or stay silent.

As for the fight it in court. Let’s put this one to rest. If you’re facing a felony battery charge and are offered his deal you’d snap it up too — it seems like a win to me given the news accounts of what happened.

Would someone with a twitter account please tweet this guy Richard Sherlock Holmes Ings that the information he is so shocked to learn and the numbers he wants have always been publicly available. But it takes some effort to find (the ATP should post it and not make you find it or have to contact them or the IRS to get it).

The numbers in 2014 (2015 report) were $581,000 to his production company and $256,955 compensation for his Director position. JG was not the only Director that year to have business with the ATP.

The numbers in 2015 (2016 report) were $675,876 for his production company and $177,609 compensation for his Director position. Again, JG was not the only Director that year to have business with the ATP.

Also disclosed in each of those years for “family/business relationships among interested persons” that David Edges and Justin Gimelstob have a “business relationship,” which is thin disclosure to say the least.

Later years aren't as instantly available. The ATP should be posting them at it's site and not frustrate Ings.

Why was I aware of it years ago and Ing wasn't ? Because I actually had an interest in the ATP Governance as opposed to hopping on the train and feigning interest and outrage after the JG incident.

To answer his question, while I'm not looking up the specific laws applicable to the ATP entity, typically the way you sanitize it and avoid allegations of self-dealing is by (1) disclosure, (2) not having the interested party participating in the approval and (3) making sure it's an arm's length transaction which would include consideration of other third party transactions. Which is really just compliance with the so-called Duty of Loyalty.

I'll regret looking up these numbers after the thread is deleted.

Please read the victim’s impact statement and then tell me if you still have sympathy for Gimelstob. It’s pretty incredible and makes me think that he’s a narcissistic sociopath. There is something really wrong with him.

I'm amazing how some are willing to dismiss violence. Reading the victim's impact statement, Gimelstob is unhinged.

Isner is a good guy. He's just supporting his coach. As others have noted, he's not a child rapist or a murderer. He may have acted like a sociopath in this incident, but I'm sure that he has a good rapport with Isner (and probably several guys on tour), so you can't trash Isner for standing by his coach.
His previous comments from years ago should have been more than enough

Because of his conviction or because it's problematic in itself ? If the latter, the ATP is not alone. Nor is tennis.

Sometimes an interested party actually has a good deal for the entity. They can have contacts, skills and/or opportunities not otherwise available. Often that's the reason they are on the Board or otherwise positioned at the entity.

Incidentally, you have a lot of posts.

The most juvenile response possible. Why am I not surprised? :)
I am levelling my response to the niveau of the recipient as it seems that you still haven't got over how Djokovic handled his responsibilities as a representative of all the players.

A well-connected party might be 'a good deal for the entity', but 'an interested party' usually wants a good deal for himself.

Read it. Wow that dude is off the chain. He probably thinks this is all fake news. It looks like borderline manslaughter if kaplans version is true. There is video and if it was ever released Wertheim would be like thats Anthony Edwards no way thats Gimelstob.

FEDR and Nadal no longer want to be bothered with the formal tennis politics and the ATP Board. Djokovic certainly doesn’t need to waste his time with it and doesn’t need “to gain power.” He’s doing very very well as is. But he’s gotten involved and I assume actually does care about the pay of lower ranked players.
We will never know but I highly doubt he cares its just a platform to gain influence and power. Remember he also supports lower pay for women.

Mr. Gimelstob is gone but for too long we the Tennis Channel viewers were subjected to his toxic masculinity. Yet the toxicity lingers.... we need a remedy.

I suggest granting tennis fans all across this great nation access to Tennis Channel Plus during the French Open for a discounted price. Only then, can we start to heal from this wound.

It is your duty as a TTW member to make this a reality. We may have won the battle, but we can win the war too.:happydevil:

How the heck did this worthless turd get any role of authority in tennis anyway. An awful player in his day, an awful person, not intelligent, and vile and crass. I never got how he had a post tennis profession of anything but working at a soup kitchen.

If the people screaming the loudest weren't somewhat full of it with their outrage against TC they would stop watching the channel but that would require some actual sacrifice for the "cause."

I’d still watch it if Leif Shiras smoked a blunt live on air while interviewing Cilic and only asking questions about his sex life.

Isner is the worst kind of "good guy"...............................I may actually prefer dealing with Justin..........at least it's all in the open. There was a time when I mistook Isner's demeanor as him being a nice guy.................I was soooo wrong. So actually, he and Justin being buds makes total sense.

I admire John for sticking by a friend, however misguided :p. As I answered another poster who doesn't have any this is exactly the time you find out who your real friends are and when you need their support the most. I'm not JGs friend so I don't have to stick by him. If my friend were taunted by someone about the death of someone he cared about ( speculation but it struck me as probable. These guys had a history. This was not a random or drunken assault) and "lost it" and beat the crap out of the guy I would not think it was shall we say the ideal way to handle the situation but I would not let it impact the friendship. Of course, I hang out with a more delicate crowd than JG/Isner.

I have no clue why you think Isner supporting his friend is something devious and "not all in the open" and of greater interest to me I don't know how to read the, are they, extended ellipses ? Am I supposed to guess what you're thinking ?

What do you think is enough though? Life as he knew it is essentially gone. He’s going to take a massive financial hit. Reputation destroyed and basically will be an outcast in the community.

Seems like enough. For me at least.

He brought it all on himself by his reprehensible behavior

You make it seem like he is some put upon victim

Sounds like a plan but I'm missing why watching TC Plus is not equivalent.
TC plus Roland Garros package is how they can make up for their misdeeds. And if Leif Shiras did that, I would still be a fan of the channel. I was just saying that I’m not going to stop watching the only channel dedicated to Tennis because a former employee is a d#$&.

Hm, and when Justin was terrorizing his ex wife by planting cameras in her bedroom and violating her privacy I guess he was just being his good old sociopathic self, nothing to condemn there ?

Yes he did bring it upon himself and he will suffer in perpetuity. Which is why I said it’s enough.

What other punishment should be dished out?

I don't care what the situation is, or the backstory or the back ground, you don't maliciously attack someone. Any "friend" who stands by someone after this is part of the problem, an enabler. If my closest friend in the world did something like this, i'd be all over him.................like wtf, seriously, u screwed up bud!! The attacker doesnt need consoling, the victim of the attack, the pregnant wife, the freakin 2 year old.....................this incident could scar them indefinitely. I could care less about Justin and his posturing. An adult is responsible for his action at all times. It's disgusting and cowardice when people try to blame others for their actions.

It's called consequences for your actions

If people dont want to be associated with you because of your own actions, that's their right and those are the consequences you face

Shocking , I know, that actions and behaviors can have consequences and fallout

Yes Gimelstob’s ex wife’s accusations certainly fit under common knowledge.
But did you Google it and see his pattern of abuse?

As in assault/abuse people then preemptively file restraining orders against them and claim to be in fear for your life

Justin is a narcissistic coward and bully
