Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard - racket & strings

I actually find the Pure Drive 2021 quite comfortable for a power racket. I was surprised when I tried it given the reputation of this racket family.

I find it funny how people here think that all pros would need to die from this racket
Fognini played this for 20+ years probably and he's still there

Regardless which racket you use, don't forget those pros are much fitter and get a lot more treatment than you

They could have been online yesterday, it doesn't matter. They are marketing !!! Call Yonex and ask them what Tommy Paul's specs are and see if you get an answer.

Even if you get these specs - what will you use them for?

I doubt you are a 6ft8 professional athlete with a 150mph serve, so just play your Pure Drive in a way that suits the average joe

And what better marketing than to share his specs, if they are close to what rec players use. I bet some folks would buy the PD just to try Gios spec.

Yes a guy who is 6'8 professional player is going to have very similar specs to a 4.5 guy playing USTA league :-D :-D . Come on !!!
And just an fyi if you haven't been paying attention for the last 20 years, Babolat is not having any problems selling Pure Drives. ;)

I don't think his racquet is the secret ingredient to his serve nor does Babolat need him to sell more PD's. It's proven to be a racquet line that just keeps selling regardless of no big name pros using it.

After a quiet few weeks, Perricard wins the Bordeaux challenger! Opening this back up, anyone got his specs yet?
Considering he comes from having used a Gen 2 Strike 98 16x19, then 2018 PD (verifiable at Getty Images, sorted from oldest to newest), I wouldn't be surprised if his strung spec is roughly close to that Strike, so maybe the PD fairly close to stock, with just enough lead at 12 to give him a similar level of tip awareness and swing weight. Maybe leather grip and/or some silicone in the hairpin. If I had to guess, maybe mid-330's to low 340's g static, 32-ish cm balance, mid-330's SW. That also gets recoil weight up to an appropriate level for adequate comfort and swing physics for his height/arm length. The whip of his serve doesn't make me think SW could be much higher. But he's also got long levers, so who knows.

Great analysis! I was thinking around the same for him as he's got such a whippy style and wouldn't want to lose the speed the pure drive naturally has. I've mainly wondered about swingweight for him as he's such a big guy. I've got my PD100 at 330g, basically just added a thicker leather grip, and it feels great with that. I need to invest in a Briffidi SW machine to get my actual specs and match some racquets correctly

In his French interview he claims that he can't go away from 1.35 rpm blast. He tried to go 1.30 many times but he sprays everything when he lowers the gauge.

You're a new user. Okay cool.

I strung for him in 2024. Move on
Not trying to start an argument, but Michelle had Olivier from Babolat on her podcast a few months ago, talking about the new Pure Drive. She actually asked about what frame GMP uses, and brought up the rumor that he’s switched between the 98 & 100. He said, as far as he knows, GMP has always used the 100 (question asked at 25:30):

This settles it. Now we can speculate on which year. Someone should dig up his pics from junior competitions. That usually is a good indicator.

Looks like 2018 Pure Drive - no cortex (so not 2015), grommets different to 2021/2025

He used to use the Strike before switching to the PD in 2020

In contrast you can see Vavassori with the 3/9 grommets from the 2021/2025 PD

If you follow this series of quotes, it’s referencing Shang, not GMP.
