Giovanni the Giant: 6"8 guy with one handed backhand is making having a breakout year!

Oh my god

Now even Johny isner isn't servebot.

He would feel insulted.

I say even kyrgios is servebot. Ace rate above break rate is servebot to me.

Isner is far above the criteria. Top 2 servebot of all time.
Yeah I agree he is a servebot. Just surprised me a bit he is 3rd of all time on 2nd serve won%, behind Federer and Nadal. 2nd serve usually involves more shots and by that more baseline-skills.

But that's because his kick serve is so great.

You can see his second serve pts won on return and see how low he is. I bet even milos will be ahead.

Def needs to improve his return game. That was the most notable flaw I observed today against Tiafoe. He is only 21. As he matures - OH MAN!

I’d think it’s doubtful he becomes better than mediocre in this aspect of the game. At his size he can’t have it all and doesn’t need it all.
Usain Bolt proved you could be taller than the historical norm, but I doubt Giovanni will do the same. No serve will make up for return games won at 10%, its just the way it is. Will be happy to be proven wrong though...

Bolt would probably be a thunderous server and a rubbish returner also. As for Big G, the future holds a lot of tie breaks.

No guarantees he would improve return game. He is 6 foot 8.
He's destroyed some returns the his past few matches and spectacular fashion. He's very aggressive on second serves, but it's on first serves that he's weak. Due to his one hander, he tends to block/slice the his first serve returns which pop up instead of staying low and biting. It would be one of the easier things to work on.
On the visual test alone, he's far more talented than other tall players of the past apart from Milos. And the only reason Milos was a failure was the non stop injuries which comes with being so tall and big. If Giovani can avoid injuries, he's going to do very well.

I just counted, I think Gio is at 80 consecutive holds of serve, from losing serve early in the 2nd set against Seyboth Wild in Antwerp (lost in straights) to his last win over Tiafoe in Paris.

What's the full list of players that have gone past streaks of 100? Anyone know?

Fed, Pete, Isner, Arthurs.... Anyone else?
this is an old thread - Fed and Arthurs are the only ones listed as over 100(but Arthurs includes qualifying matches)

anyone watch the Khachanov-Perricard match? How the heck did Khachanov take the second set 6-1 and break Perricard multiple times?

So whats up, hype is already over?

Perricard, who allegedly is not a servebot, won 0% of return games, 7% 1st SPR and 24% 2nd SPR vs Khakanov...

He's clearly a servebot, but with an upgrade. Obviously he's more talented and varied in his game than Isner, Opelka or Karlovic, so perhaps he'll be more of a Ivanisevic or Philippoussis type servebot as he progresses. Many of you guys seem to be impressed by his movement, but it really only is in context of his large frame, which doesn't make it great overall. Watching him against Tiafoe he seemed a bit slow and clumsy occasionally when put out of position, and there were a number of shots that landed not very far from him that he just let go. Also, as others have correctly pointed out with the unflattering stats, his return is pretty terrible, so that should be the absolute top improvement priority for his coach. I do like that he utilizes the chip and block returns because not many young players seem to even know how to do that these days, but he needs to find a way to keep those lower and deeper in the court. They sit up too much.

He should count himself a bit lucky that he won't have to face the Big 3 - they mercilessly feasted on guys like this. That being said, I'm pretty confident he'll move into the top 15 next year based on his insane serve alone, but if he can improve his return he'll go even higher.

Goran and Philippoussis were great players!

No, "great players" win grand slams in their prime...Goran won his as a wildcard miracle in 2001 on the brink of retirement and Phili-something is well...he got nothing at all...they aren't "great" players, just "strong top players"...
