And the reason is not because I'm a Sampras fan. The reason is because nadal has been so lucky to win the amount of grand slams he has.
Here's why
-Court speeds changed at the perfect time for him 2003-2014. Most of nadals career the courts have all blended into one speed. Which suits nadal. Australian open as been so slow it's seriously been similar to clay at times. Watch the 2009 final vs federer. It's pathetic. Australian open should be a medium speed court like it has been this year. Wimbledon slowed down terribly too. Wimbledon should be super quick like Halle and Wimbledon in the 70s 80s 90s. The us open as been very slow as well. The should be a fast medium hardcourt.
-racket strings changed in the late 90s early 00s at a time nadal was learning how to play tennis and play his topspin style game. In the 70s 80s 90s nadal would hardly win a match at Wimbledon or the us open with old rackets.
Look nadal would win the French open in any era. But there were some good claycourters around (Borg Lendl Wilander)But other than that I doubt he'd win much at all of the other tournaments.
Nadals had it all his own way for many years and still he's the not passed Sampras. Federer is the clear cut GOAT. Maybe the greatest sportsman with Muhammad ali, maradona, messi
