I've been doing a lot of research on the various brands and models. There are just so many to choose from and the differences seem so minute, I get the feeling that it's mostly about personal preference. I'd like to know what some of the experienced stringers out there think. Here's some basic info...this stringer will be for my personal use and hopefully some friends, it won't have to handle high volume. I'd like a good tensioner and clamps, and a 6 point mounting system. I'd like to stay in the $500-$700 range, but would go higher or lower if it was worth it.
I'm thinking about going with a table top crank machine. I play in a lot of tournaments and I'd like to be able to take the stringer with me to string my racquets if need be and maybe make some money by stringing others' racquets as well. I'm going with the crank style because I eventually plan to upgrade to a Wise electronic tensioner. I'm not opposed to a stand machine, I just think the table top models are more versatile and obviously more portable. If someone could give me compelling reasons to go with a stand model, I would consider it.
The machines I'm considering right now are the SP Crump, and the Alpha Revo 4000. The stand machines I've looked heavily at are the Mutual Power Titan 7700 and the SP Jazz. One thing that surprised me was that the Mutual Power machine w/stand is only $20 more than the table top Revo 4000. Why? I've heard good things about the SP Maestro, but it's a little more than I'd like to spend. Can the clamps on the SP Crump or Jazz be upgraded to the ones used on the Maestro?
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
