Going to buy a stringer, need advice?

I've been doing a lot of research on the various brands and models. There are just so many to choose from and the differences seem so minute, I get the feeling that it's mostly about personal preference. I'd like to know what some of the experienced stringers out there think. Here's some basic info...this stringer will be for my personal use and hopefully some friends, it won't have to handle high volume. I'd like a good tensioner and clamps, and a 6 point mounting system. I'd like to stay in the $500-$700 range, but would go higher or lower if it was worth it.

I'm thinking about going with a table top crank machine. I play in a lot of tournaments and I'd like to be able to take the stringer with me to string my racquets if need be and maybe make some money by stringing others' racquets as well. I'm going with the crank style because I eventually plan to upgrade to a Wise electronic tensioner. I'm not opposed to a stand machine, I just think the table top models are more versatile and obviously more portable. If someone could give me compelling reasons to go with a stand model, I would consider it.

The machines I'm considering right now are the SP Crump, and the Alpha Revo 4000. The stand machines I've looked heavily at are the Mutual Power Titan 7700 and the SP Jazz. One thing that surprised me was that the Mutual Power machine w/stand is only $20 more than the table top Revo 4000. Why? I've heard good things about the SP Maestro, but it's a little more than I'd like to spend. Can the clamps on the SP Crump or Jazz be upgraded to the ones used on the Maestro?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

the alpha revo gets lots of love here.
cant go wrong with it. it is easy to carry around to your tournas.
everything that you want to do, you can do with the alpha.
sorry, but i dont know much about the others you asked about

Also, before I forget check out Manswers Stringing Machine guide It helped me out alot.

dancraig, Lakers4life, jim e, and Manswers helped me alot and so did Ryangoring if my memory is right and will most likely help you!

Thanks guys for all the help you gave me!

^^^You're Welcome!

To the OP, I'm pretty sure the Clamps can be upgraded, but you should check with SP. I can give you measurments of Eagnas style string clamps, which are $40 a piece. No one around here seems to want to give up measurements of thier machines' clamps.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and I've read that many times while reading through the board. I think I'm just going to pony up and go with a gamma machine. The only thing I have to worry about now is do I go with a table top or stand machine? As mentioned earlier, I'm leaning towards the table top due to it's portability and the cheaper price. I can find/build a stand for it to go on when it's at home and I can take it with me when I want to as well.

Some have used Tool carts, like Husky from HomeDepot. I took a quick look at their website, and found a Buffalo Tool Cart for $100. I like it coz you can put String and tools in the locking drawers.

The current Opus, Aria, DG, Maestro clamps were a $150.00 "upgrade" when I purchased my machine. You keep the original clamps, so it is an outright purchase.
