I do agree that the organizers are stuffy, elitist pr****s for making Dan Evans go through pre qualifying. Though I have to defend them here.
Wimbledon is in a residential area. The council and local residents would complain. If they set the trend of extending beyond the curfew, players would forever pressure them to extend matches. Then they would get the added complaint of favoritism.
They really should have resumed the Djoko Nadal semi at 11am, the schedule allowed it. Even if it didn’t, they were the only match that day extended over two days.
Servebots are here to stay and rallies are longer. Bearing that in mind, I think the only solution is for the fifth set to be reduced to a tie break. They have to acknowledge the impact of the curfew. It was practically rain free this year, they shouldn’t be falling behind schedule.
