Gonzalez is a joy to watch

Fernando Gonzalez is a joy to watch his inside out forehand is incredible and he has great one hander down the line I love watching this guy play.

When he is on fire, his matches are always really exciting. It's like watching a highlight reel! He can pull off huge shots from the most random places on court and can turn rallies around with one shot.

This week he is really on fire, just like Soderling.

The amazing thing is that he hits bombs and then mixes it up with daft touch shots.

He played some exhibition points against Murray and Hanescu.

Gonzo has a good backhand now it stayed up well in the ralleys so he could then use his forehand and he hit a couple of stunning passes with his backhand.

completely agree

+1

Was awesome to watch him take out Murray. Can't see Fed beating him when he is in this kind of form (and fed not being his godly self). Of course that is assuming that Fed gets past Monfils

Yeah one of my favourite points of the his match today was when he casually hit a nice dropshot and then just as casually hit a perfect lob volley over Murray when Murray got to the dropshot.

And then there's that dropshot where it hit the ground and bounced backwards into the net. Just fabulous touch.

Yeah, amazing player to watch when he's on.Besides that booming FH which is hit with tons of pace and spin he also has underrated touch, has very good hands actually.

totally agree, most underrated is the way he times his one-handed backhand and his all-around speed.

the forehand is a force of nature :)

when he's good, he's good. it ain't so fun when he's off, though.

You got that right! When he's "on," ... wow! But when he's "off," ... yikes! His style of play, while very entertaining, lends itself to streakiness. Truly painful to watch him when he's off.

OP is correct though, when Gonzo's hot he's awesome!

I have to agree I have also loved Gonzo's game. Just wish he would have played his best more often would have liked to see him go deeper in more slams. Back in 2003 at the French Open he definitely was the second best guy out there his QF match with Juan Carlos Ferrero was some of the best clay court tennis I had seen. Gonzo is an outstanding player when he is pushing it.

Me too.I can't wait for his match with Soderling. It can be really amazing.
I doubt it, 1 attacking and 1 defending player usually makes great tennis if the attacking one is on.. However, I don't remember as much greatness from two hardhitters like these two.

Gonzo is awesome, it's hard to believe anyone can generate that much power. What I really enjoyed about his game today wasn't just the monster hitting on display but also the more unsung elements of the Gonzo game. He hit a number of beautifully measured dropshots as well as a couple of very smart lobs, and when he's combining all of that into his game it's an impressive sight to see.

It's true, I love watching Gonzo and he deserves to make the final.
If you'd have told him that he had to beat Robin Soderling for a place in the final he would've laughed his head off before the tournament. :)
But then wouldn't we all...

Gonzo is not going to beat soderling my tip is robin in 3 or maybe 4 sets tops !

soderlings backhand and return game is better than gonzos and hes not going to float the ball back like murray did today and let gonzo use his massive forehand .

soderlings big groundstrokes are going to take time away from gonzo and make him scramble at the baseline , also i give robin an edge as far as the serve goes.

gonzo is more consistent. he is also a proven clay courter. both fed and him have liable single handers and good serves so its going to come down to mentality, and fed's variety e.g. slices and slightly better backhand
