Good idea to stock up tennis shoe? Would the shoe deteroriate in the closet for 2 yr?

I was buying tennis shoe like crazy when it's on sale.

Currently I had 2 pair of BIII, 2 pair of A3, a pair of Breath Free 2 sitting in the closet, all brand new

Currently I have open up and rotated between 4 pair of other tennis shoes, that's 9 pairs in total

I have stock an brand new Nike Air Max runner in the closet for 5 years before I take it out last month. However, after just one day, the whole sole come off as the glue are long gone after all the years. The rubber turn into powder and the air bubble come off

My bad, the air max is a fake one I bought in Thailand

My question is, does the defect of the Air Max due to it's fake or not being used for too long?

Would that happen to my authentic tennis shoe? Since I prefer to completely wear out the current 4 pair before opening up the new one

If the tennis shoe does age in the closet, would the problem be solved if I wear them a couple of time before putting it back? Or there's no solution but to use it ASAP?

sorry for my English

There are plenty of early 90's shoes on **** with yellow outsoles, and small cracks, and dry. Rubber deteriorates in the presence of air and/or sunlight. But two years should not be a big deal at all, especially when not in direct sunlight. I myself just this year obtained a couple of new pairs of Air Court Motion and that line came out a little more than five years ago. They seemed fine to me; I'm just waiting for my current shoes to wear. But if you were planning on using any shoes or tires made more then ten years ago, then be cautious. If you're still worried, perhaps you could pack the shoes in a vacuum-sealed bag to help keep air from getting to them.

2 years is no problem. like prestige said, keep them out of direct light (in the box is best) and they will be ok. i have shoes that are almost 2 yrs old in the box still and they look perfect.

Shouldn't be a problem...i have several pairs...8 in total of the Sampras air oscilate shoes...a pair of the oscilate clay court shoes...along with the first pair of Air Max's he wore!! I have worn them once and they still feel great!! As long as they are kept out of the sun light they will be fine...stock up now with your fav pair as you will regret it someday!!

Are they the Air Max² Spa? Those were awesome shoes; too bad the outer air pockets kept deflating and the adhesive between the air pokets and the outsole didn't hold. Even so, I wish I still had a few pairs of those to wear! Mine were blue, and I believe I also had a pair in green.

Hey Prestige,

They were the first pair that he wore at Wimbledon 1994 when he switched from Tacchini to Nike....but they were and still are a great and comfy shoe!!

They were the all white ones with some blue on there..must admit the older i get the more i realise that i should purchase more of the same if they are comfy!! Made too many mistakes where i thought...thats ok...they will still be around!! Boy, what a mistake to have made!!

Hi,

Not a bad question to ask. I have 4 pairs of new shoes under my bed. When I find a pair that works fo me.. I pick up a few pairs and then then wait for them to be discounted and then even pick-up a few more sets. I run thur at least 3 pair each season and I do not play much in the winter. If you do not store the shoes in the right place I can see how they might begin to "dry-rot" and age. Two years would not be a problem if stored in the right place IMHO.

Regards,
Steve

Thanks for all the reply, that serve my piece of mind

Too bad i don't have too much space to store the shoe in box, but to put them in the shoe closet.

No sun light on them of course and hope the shoe will remain just as good

thanks again

In a prior thread it was mentioned the mid-sole aged prematurely. Appears from these posts that no one experienced loss of cushioning even after over 5 years.

i've had old shoes where the midsole turns yellow from sunlight but no other degredation of the shoe itself. never noticed any loss of cushion or support.

I usually buy an extra pair or two of a new shoe I find that I like.

Once, the pro at my club gave me a heads-up that Wilson was discontinuing my favorite shoe, so he ordered some for me and we found more at places like Tennis warehouse. I think I ended up with 9 pairs, and didn't buy shoes for several years.

Kept them in the boxes, they didn't seem to degrade at all.

play well,
Andrew
