Good idea to use string savers for gut/poly hybrid?

Two years ago I used champions choice with gut mains and alu power rough crosses. Everything was perfect about those strings. Feel, bite, power, control, everything. Since it lasted me about 1-2 weeks, I switched to full bed of alu power rough. Those were nice too but now I have switched to champions choice, but this time with string savers so it can be more durable. I don't know why but the playability feels way different than what I've experienced two years ago. Is it really the string savers that is making the playability different? Do you prefer to use string savers for gut/poly hybrids?

Using the same Champ Choice string w/ gut in mains at 55 Luxilon in crosses at 43. Put the string savers on. It was a pain in the ***, but i know it will extend the life of this setup. Plays great for me. Best string setup I've ever used.

Lasted a month so far for me playing 7 hours a week doubles.

We'll see ultimately how long it lasts. Don't see any fraying yet.

Thanks for the reply. I put string savers on and found out that I put "too much". That's why it was making it play really stiff and bad. I took a lot of them off but they are on the perfect sweet spot. They are playing much much better now. I'm also determine how long these will last. So far it's been 7 hours and 30 mins of play and there is little fraying. Lets see how many more hours before it breaks.

I only add string savers as the gut begins to notch. Then I can target the wear and not have to add too many string savers.

I just put the minimum amount (just enough to cover my sweet spot) from the get go. Because often times, when I realize I forgot the put them on, it's already too late.
