Don't count out Sportsnet One Marius. They aired Milos' Tokyo match live even though it wasn't on their schedule. Check your tv tomorrow and you just might find a surprise. :)

Vasek Pospisil

Okay, so, what I want to know is if this kid Vasek Pospisil could one day be the #1 Canadian.

Here's my view on it.

Milos is hurting, yes he's on the mend, but there are a ton of points he needs to defend early in the season here.

Next, this kid Vasek just ran the table against Israel in last month's Davis Cup win. He was clutch - Launching Canada into the World Group for the first time in like 10 years.

Third, he's faster than Milos will ever be, and has a serious all-court game. Sure, he doesn't have a massive serve, but he's fast, with a great forehand, consistent backhand, and has shown his quality by beating the likes of Chela, and having a close 4-setter with Lopez in the USO.

Doesn't have a massive serve? Looks pretty serious to me. Yeah, he looks real good as well. Milos has that serve that not only is fast, but he can change speeds, spins and placement like a baseball pitcher. Its almost unbreakable except for the Djokovics and Federers. Its going to win him a lot of cheap points. And on top of that, he has a really good racquet(meaning he has great hands).

I think France is going to waddle into Canada and get a bit of a surprise. If Tsonga happens to lose a match, Canada wins.

Shanghai: Raonic - Ferrer

OK,

Ferrer - Raonic
is again on grand stand (which means on streams)
the 2nd match this time
Not before 3AM EST

Let's see if he can get under Ferrer's skin better than last time, in the Australian :-)

Here's what raonic said about the Llodra match

THE CANADIAN PRESS

SHANGHAI, China -- Canadian Milos Raonic struggled to defeat Michael Llodra 6-7 (2), 6-2, 7-6 (5) on Tuesday in the first round of the Shanghai Masters.

The 20-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., ranked 31st in the world, has never lost to the 33rd-ranked Llodra and had dropped only one set previously. But Llodra pushed him in a match that lasted more than two hours 15 minutes.

Raonic is still finding his groove after surgery following a injury at Wimbledon.

"I'm not expecting a lot from myself right now," Raonic said. "I'm happy just to find a way to win and hope to get better and better.

"I'm happy with how I fought through it, the game feels like it's coming back. But I'm still missing the instincts, the sense of what to do on the court. I need to regain the competitive spirit. ... I'm just glad I have the opportunity to play again."

Raonic in Stockholm

Meelosh will be up against Baghdatis in the first round in Stockholm!

Very good practice for running around and improving the motion over the court.

Then, Petzschner/Kubot, Chela/Dimitrov.

All tough. Lost to P in Halle, I think.

But not so tough, still, none of them top 20.

Thus, good draw. Baggy's 55 now, always dangerous, of course.

Based on what I saw in Shanghai and the match with Ferrer (in which he lost from being 2-0 in both sets, on weak mental towards the end, plus Ferrer), I'm going out on a limb and say Milos gets to the SF. Let's see:-)

Of course, he could lose to any of them. Hope not.

Great result for Rebecca Marino

Luxembourg Women's Singles
October 18

R. Marino 1 6 6
A. Pavlyuchenkova 6 3 3

She was one break down in the 3rd set.

Great comeback, Rebecca!

Raonic beats Petzschner 6-3, 6-3 today to move on to QFs. Did anyone catch that match? Does it look like Milos is regaining his pre-injury form? Good news is he'll have an advantage in that Chela/Dimitrov don't play their R16 until tomorrow, so he'll have an extra day's rest over the winner of that.

He really needs to pick up big points in this last part of the season, since he could potentially lose ~ 2/3rds of his total ranking points after AO-San Jose-Memphis in the very early part of next season. If he can't earn a lot of points this last month or match his results from last year at those 3 events, he could very well tumble near or out of the Top 100 by the time IW rolls around. Since the Memphis final, the most he's earned at any event is 90 points (at 2 clay events oddly) and no more than 45 anywhere else.

Looks like he's rounding back into form, gaining confidence all the way around. I'll pick him to beat chela/dimitrov and get at least 90 points in stockholm and have a wicked match with Monfils/Anderson. Wouldn't shock me if he won Stockholm.

Then could pick up a good chunk of points at Paris Masters too!

Raonic:

All the shots are back, great on S-V

Needs to improve crosscourt 2HBH, not confident on it yet to use it regularly, too much FH runaround.

Flattens too quickly from both sides, needs to just roll them in a bit from time to time, more top, taking the speed off

Raonic vs Monfils - LIVE on Sportsnet One!!!!

They're showing Blake and Niemenen warming up now for the first match.

Watch Pospisil today

06:30 AM EST Pospisil - Seppi (ATP St. Petersburg)

V. Pospisil, our brave Davis Cupper, fought hard, got through 3 Q rounds, and has today the first match in the main draw of St. Petersburg.

Watch him on streams (we're lucky).

He's trying hard to get into the top 100.

Vasek Pospisil lost to Seppi in St. Petersburg 5-7, 6/7.

On being broken at 5/5 in set 1 he screamed f..k. When he failed to break Seppi at 5-6 he threw his racket.

When he lost the set at 6/7 he thres his racket half way across the court.

He was by no means the gracious player I watched at DC v. Israel. This sort of attitude will get in his way if he intends to be successful as a professional.

That's two weeks now that Vasek has made it through qualifying ahead of some very good players. He must be playing pretty well. I'd love to see him win a couple of first round matches to get some confidence that he can play against these guys. It was last year about this time that Milos finally started seeing some results which carried through to this year. It'd be great if Vasek could make a breakthrough too.

Pospisil beats Isner

Amazing performance by Pospisil (CAN), who was a Q, and is #123, to beat Isner in one of his first higher-level ATP tournaments

V. Pospisil 6 3 7
J. Isner 3 6 6

11-9 in the tiebreaker!!
P was
84% first serve (86% Isner)

Not shown on broadcast.

The reward? He plays Ferrer (1) in the 2nd round.
Just a great opportunity and experience.
Some nice competition between the two young Canadians :-)

Pospisil gets to #113 as a result.

Pospisil wins 3 matches, qualifies!!

Aircel Chennai Open, Qualification Men's Singles
13:08 GMT January 2

Fin. V. Pospisil 6 6 6
R. Ram 1 7 3

Great victory to beat Ram, who is an established player.

--

Although a hip injury at Wimbledon on June 22 cut short Raonic's season, he was able to recover and finish out the last few tournaments of the ATP tour.

He was then able to put together a more focused off-season program that built on his tournament experience and developed his game into a more well-rounded attack.

"Last year, I think there was a big, broad, general improvement that was needed in my game so we worked more volume and more basic stuff just to raise the level of my base of my fitness and my tennis," Raonic said. "Whereas this year, we didn't do as much volume off the court, we did more specific stuff, more explosive stuff. More weights.

"I felt I already had the endurance and all that, it was just a matter of getting quicker, getting more agile and faster, especially coming back from the hip surgery."

Eugene Bouchard(CAN) for the girls singles got to the Semifinals of the Competition losing to Yulia 5-7,1-6.

Also Flilip Pelio(CAN) got to the final which is contesting right now against Luke Saville 2011 Wimbledon champ and 2011 Aussie finalist.

Davis Cup

Which site is going to show Davis Cup with France?
beside livescorehunter, I mean, which for the time being doesn't show anything (it might be too early)

I don't see anything on
tsn.ca
sportsnet.ca
cbcsports.ca
as to LIVE, yet

It seems to be
http://www.sportsnet.ca/tennis/davis_cup_canada_france/
but it's a bit confusing: are they going to have only POST-match stuff/commentary live, not the matches themselves?
Will the matches be only on TV? Strange, if so.

Let's see if the boys can use this big opportunity with Monfils not playing.

GO CANADA!!

Let's congratulate Vasek Pospisil for getting into the top 100!

http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Po/V/Vasek-Pospisil.aspx

Hopefully, it was early enough for being included in the main draw at Roland Garros.

Hear hear, go Popsicle!! Should be able to be in FO.

If he's just cracking the top 100 now he's a couple of weeks too late to get DA for the French. The deadline is 6 wks before the tourney starts, which should be Apr 16th, assuming the French starts May 28th.

Edit: He cracked the top 100 back on Apr 2nd, so he's good for the French.

Boy Singles:

Filip Peliwo(CAN) into the Boys Singles Semifinals. Hopefully reaches the final and gets third time lucky.

Girls Singles:

Both Francoise Abanda(CAN) and Eugene Bouchard(CAN) are into the semi's. Both at different sides....hopefully they can play the final against each other.

Don't know what happening to Canadian tennis to produce the surge of Milos Raonic, and Canadian Juniors doing well on the biggest junior tennis stages!

Things looking bright :)

Peliwo and Bouchard won their semis and made it to the final. Peliwo has made all 3 slam finals this year but lost the first two. He'll be playing the same guy (Saville I think) who beat him at the Aussie Open.

Francoise Abanda lost in 3 sets. But in terms of potential, she's the one to watch. She's only 15 (youngest in top 50 juniors) and already ranked 13th in the world.

Oh, and:

"Watch Bouchard in the girls' final, Saturday on TSN.ca at 8am et/5am pt. You can also catch Peliwo in the boys' final, Sunday on TSN.ca at 8am et/5am pt."

Eugenie Bouchard made history Saturday by becoming Canada's first Grand Slam singles winner when she beat the Ukraine's Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-2 in the junior girls' final at Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old from Westmount, Que., ranked 309 on the WTA list, will have the chance to earn another Canadian record when she and American partner Taylor Townsend play for the junior doubles title against Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Croatia's Ana Konjuh.

Well done Eugenie!

Trivia: Oddly enough, two weeks before Wimbledon last year, I was playing next to her on an outdoors court at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal and I wished her good luck for Wimbledon. I guess I was a year early. :)

It great thing that she won! She not the first girls singles Grand Slam champion from Canada!? I heard there was another long time ago.

I hope Peliwo beats Saville...Saville already has lasy years Wimbledon Jr title.

Saville beat Peliwo in this years Aussie Open final. And yes, Eugenie Bouchard is the first Canadian junior (boy or girl) to ever win a slam.

Woooo! Filip Peliwo wins the boy's final, after losing in the final in the previous 2 slams:

Filip Peliwo made it a clean sweep for Canada in the junior singles finals at Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old from Vancouver beat Australia's Luke Saville 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday to win the boys' crown, a day after fellow Canuck Eugenie Bouchard won the girls' trophy.

The Westmount, Que., native also added the girls' doubles crown on Sunday as she and Taylor Townsend of the U.S. defeated Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Croatia's Ana Konjuh 6-4, 6-3.

The wins gave Canada an unprecedented three titles at a Grand Slam event. Bouchard's victory in the girls' final on Saturday marked the first time a Canadian has won a singles final at any level at a major.

As a Canadian tennis fan, this is music to my ears. The future seems bright for tennis in this country. Hopefully these young players can continue to improve and embark on successful careers!
