Good thin gauge poly

Curious

G.O.A.T.
I like thin gauge poly strings like Solinco tour bite 19. Are there any similar strings maybe a little firmer and with better tension maintenance? Max 1.20 mm.

Hi,

You can try kirschbaum Max power rough 1.20

Very good touch and tension maintenance

I have to say I doubt the credibility of TW string comparisons and data!
How can tour bite 18 be softer and much lower tension maintenance than tour bite 19?!!

You can try Tourna Silver 7 Tour in 17 gauge. It's thinner than most 1.25 mm strings. I discovered this string when I was a playtester for it for Tennis Warehouse. In my first post is a picture comparing S7T and 1.20 Tour Bite:

There's an active thread talking about some breaking/shearing issues with the string - while it isn't an epidemic it does seem to break and shear more often than other poly strings, but it is so inexpensive and does so many other things well that several of us who have experienced an unusual string breakage are still using it.

I actually prefer thinner than 1.20mm.

The poly I use much more often than anything else when stringing for locals is 1.20mm Isospeed Baseline. It's often a great first try for anybody who is breaking full beds of multi or syn. gut regularly and wants to sample a poly hybrid. I actually wish it was also available in 1.15mm. Lighter gauges of poly seem to be the way to go for most players who don't quite annihilate the ball, but still want that string type.

Try the same gauge of Hyper G. It is similar to Tour Bite but slightly stiffer and more muted.

It seems like this is an often overlooked string. How does is compare to poly tour pro yellow?

Weisscannon silver string and Luxilon ace are the stiffest strings I can think of.

unfortunately super thin strings just aren’t that firm and maintain tension as well. Thin string means less material. Go up in gauge if you want more tension maintenance and stiffness.

I'm not a poly player - I've only sampled this string in my own frames as a hybrid combined with a syn. gut cross. I expected it to be harsh and clunky feeling, but I was surprised to find that it played about as firm as a snug bed of full syn. gut. I consistently use both 16 and 17 gauge syn. gut in my own racquets.

I doubt that this poly is much better or worse than many others, but I can't speak from experience aside from my brief trials mentioned above. I was surprised a couple summers ago though, after a couple of local college killers needed fresh poly setups when they popped their full beds of RPM Blast. I set them up with Baseline 1.25mm that replaced their RPM of the same gauge. Although they didn't get a different degree of service life from the Baseline, they loved the feel and performance of the Isospeed poly.

The Baseline also didn't give them any of the arm numbness that was happening with the RPM. I have no idea how this poly stacks up against Poly Tour Pro, but it's very affordable stuff and has been quite well received in my local circle. Likely not the best of the best, but great bang for the buck.

signum pro poly plasma 1.18mm 17L is my favorite string as a cross. Could go well with gut or shaped poly in main.

I like the Cyclone 18L over the 19g. For me it's the optimal balance between tension maintenance, bite, power and feel. I use it as a main string, with Pro Red Code Wax 18g as a cross. VC19g loses tension noticeably faster than the 18L. It's only a bit stiffer than the Tour Bite 19, from what I remember.

When i played Poly, my string of choice was Solinco Hyper G -18G, it hit the sweet spot for both "relative comfort" and tension maintenance. I compensated for the drop in tension by pairing it with an 18x20 stringbed, allowed me to play controlled tennis for much longer.

I like Tour Bite 18 much more than 19. The tension maintenance is better and the playability much more consistent for me.

Hyper G 18 is also good (very similar), but I get a more predictable launch angle from TB.

stop hanging out in the tips area. That is the best thing for anyones game. Just get a string and play man. play.

Solinco TB has been the worst string for me. Big hyper g, alu power and rpm blast fan.

I found huge difference between TB and HG at 50 lbs both on blade.
Plying style perhaps...

Tried ALU Power 1.15mm on the mains with X-One Biphase 1.25mm in the crosses. Required about 10 hrs of break-in but after that I get about 16 hrs of magic. Typically my strings last me about 70-80 hrs of play so my only concern is the $$$ and the frequency of restringing which is kinda troublesome.

Replaced the X-One Biphase 1.25mm with Head Velocity 1.25mm now.
Still searching for an alternative for the ALU Power 1.15mm. Maybe on the 1.20mm thickness. Considering Signum Pro Firestorm 1.20mm, Razor Code 1.20mm.

Ideas are welcomed.
