Look how Nadal’s racket follows through all the way wrapping around his back even on very slow forehands at the beginning. What level of looseness does it take, man?! (y)
Even on the tlm serve video someone commented how the biggest problem is how rigid his upper body was.

Racquet sport techniques are generally counterintuitive which is why a lot of rec players fail in emulating higher level players. A not too tight grip and relaxed body lends to a harder shot.

It is not looseness, they are not loose at least right before contact...
How do the hand and racket wrap around the back with the follow through then? Don’t tell me because he swings very fast. It happens right at the beginning of his warm up forehands as well.

That explains why it wraps high around the back but not how it wraps.
Loose is a relative term. Most people have a death grip, and that doesn’t work (not to mention predisposing to injury!) The best analogyI’ve heard is to imagine yourself holding a baby bird just firmly enough to keep it from escaping your hand without harming it.

I wasn’t actually referring to the grip only. It’s more about a general looseness in the grip, arm, shoulder and so on.

Former D1 blue guy has amazing strokes, but he really let himself go lol, in such poor shape

He’s very good, but stop hitting every ball down the middle of the court and/or to him and see how it goes. Also use the length of the court, I.e. “north/south tennis.”

Yea its a bit sad he has amazing strokes and let him go into such bad shape, would still beat 99.9% of this forum tho, but still, could be so much better if he was in better shape.

This is the guy’s profile:
Person in navy blue shirt has won 76 tennis matches (excluding walkovers) at USTA 5.0 level. He has been playing 5.0 since 2007 and played Division 1 tennis for a college in a Mid-Major Conference. He qualified for the main draw at 2 ATP Future tournaments.

Maybe the takeaway for a lot of rec players here is that you can be a high level rec player by being consistent and selecting safe targets.

That blue shirt guy has excellent flawless technique for his level, his return game is rather defensive because of the weight I suppose. If he lost the extra belly and put some muscles instead, he could easily compete in ITF Seniors in his age group..

Even the orange shirt guy is quite good, but he could not manage the mix-up balls from the blue shirt guy and almost never passed him at the net whenever he did the serve and volley approach.

For most of us recreational players this is the level to reach to enjoy consistent match play with a room to improve.

I played a younger ex-pro player this morning for an hour and after 15 mins his pace was too much for me , cut my breath and I started to hit late and framed many balls if it got to a longer rally, had to make winners before he attacked. Thats another level but not even 3 or 4 players has that ability in our club..200+ players we are talking about

It would be a nice match between the guy in blue and the guy in black in this video. How can one hit every shot with confidence?!

iracer was going to run into someone who could hit through the court like that sooner or later.

I actually think blue santa could give him a run for his money, blue santa wouldn't give the d1 fellow nearly as many easy balls to run around and cane with his forehand

The thing is its much harder to hit through the court on clay than on hard courts.
Specially red clay, but even this one.
But iracer refuses to play on faster courts, because slow clay is best for his grinding.
If he would play on faster courts many more people would hit through him.

But yea this guy in vid really has a huge forehand, he looks odly old tho, i swear in the matchplay it looks like hes 40 or so based on his physique and look, odd

What's wrong with being 40?

Never was a Berdych fan, but I do think he has one of the better 2HBH's and was a solid contender all-around.
