Freaking pathetic result to wake up to.

I wish he could have just dropped that ball in on that break point in the third set in Melbourne.

F### this year.

Let's not get carried away now. I can think of plenty of players outside of the big 3 who played at that level or better at the USO.
I trust the current No 1 and his opponent on this than arm chair experts and eye tests.

Please read Medvedev's interview

You must mean a level not seen in tennis this generation because if Medvedev said a level not seen in tennis period, like I thought you meant, then no I don't trust his opinion. Lol.

Nadal has grown to love this match-up even when they played a combined 4 tiebreakers at the 2019 Wimbledon and 2020 AO, Nadal won them all
And the US Open Final is a pressure-cooker occasion, will not be easy for Kyrgios to control himself :p
I read somewhere that Nadal has played 7 slams without Djokovic/Federer in the draw, and won all 7? Correct me if I'm wrong.
I can see why Nadal is so great at dealing with pressure, because he faced maximum pressure at Roland Garros for so many years.

My guy, this is what you sign up for when you get into sports. Sometimes things go well for one person, sometimes they go well for another. Medvedev's draw wasn't great here. Nonetheless, you don't even know who could be a better matchup in the final, or even if Nadal makes it there.

Chill, in the end it's just a game we watch for fun.

Yes that was truly the turning point... He got into rallies in all 3 break points and managed to lose them all.

Strange how one point could have made such a drastic impact on the performance for 2 players for a whole year. Without the momentum and euphoria of the AO win, the year could have turned out very different for Rafa. Maybe he wouldn't win RG either.

Nadal fans celebrating 23 now.. Yes, 2022 pathetic year for tennis.
To be fair, there never was a player in this tournament that Nadal (and his fans) had to hope he would be eliminated, and this includes Medvedev. It's delusional to think Nadal would have to fear anyone if the other two members of the Big 3 are absent. Yes, he could lose a match, but then it would be due to his own weak performance, not because of an unbeatable opponent.

No they wont LOL They will just be remembered for the total GS on their record. It matters nothing who the winner beats to win the title.

Get over it man.
Funny how this was never the case when Fed had the record. Not singling you out in particular.

This I agree with. Right now Novak is the only one against whom Rafa could lose despite playing close to his best. With the rest of the field it is all about Rafa finding his best level.

Though I am still happy that Med is gone. He was the defending champion and best suited to take advantage of lapses from Rafa.

This. It was actually Med who would have needed to fear Rafa, not the other way around.

If people have said that then theyre idiots IMO.

Ive never been one to chip in about weak draws etc . Infact ive made threads in the past about the obsession on here as soon as a draw is made.

I follow football / soccer more than tennis, and i dont care that Real Madrid have sometimes avoided the other top team to win the Champions League. Nor is it ever questioned on football forums.

But for some reason, its the biggest thing mentioned to discredit wins in tennis.

Nadals biggest threat, is whether his body holds up, to be honest.

And i dont say this to make excuses. But the fact is, hes ridiculously fragile now, and we dont know what the next injury could be, and if its going to happen in the next match.

If he gets no issues, he wins this slam.

Exactly!! In fact the draw can often be very easy relatively for one of the teams in Champions league as sometimes you have very average teams going deep in the tournament.

I only caught the 4th set and saw match highlights. What are people raving about? Didn't seem like a high quality match to me. Medvedev looked rather pathetic from what I saw, hitting every shot as passively as one could imagine. His strokes look so ugly and ridiculous and I wonder if that hurts the effectiveness of them too.

The Wimbledon Finalist who's 26-5 coming into the summer, should be the world 12-15 if Wimbledon points counted, and has a 4-1 record over him was meant to be an easy run?
Kyrgios was literally the only challenging opponent he had in his draw. The rest until the final was a cakewalk.

that was a some kind of good old new-sauce electric night session... these guys might have unconventional techniques, but it was a huge pop-corn match!

I was highly entertained

6 matches left for Kyrgios, potentially. He is in both draws, and his body won't hold up.

Rafa's will.

Ehh.. Med has been living off his one fluke win over a gassed Djokovic a year ago. Whats he done since?. Kyrgios isn't going to lose to a talentless pusher with no weapons on Hardcourts unless Kyrgios beats himself (Which almost 10 times out of 10 he does)

After that very entertaining match I'd rather say Hello Tennis, welcome back!

That match was great display of shot making, great serving, tactics, daring play during break- and set points from two top players and characters (which sadly is not the case for many players). On top of that they displayed all shots in the book - including great volleying and some delicious drop shots - with added spice of some antics and showmanship. Imo that's exactly what tennis needs. Fine if you don't like the winning player - but that is just that - the tennis that was on display in that match is hard to argue with

The first set was pretty good.

Kyrgios is a very limited player. His ros relies on luck and his ground strokes are some of the weakest you’ll find on a top ten player. He’s a serve botting shot maker who takes risks. It’s not possible for him to play the best tennis outside of big 3. He doesn’t have the repertoire. Now had you said Safin, Nalbandian or Borg, I’d have believed you. Some of you are trying too hard to make Kyrgios a thing.
