Goran Ivanesevic: "More impressed by Nadal than Federer".

on a serious note, it is understandable that if he likes muster he's gonna like nadal as well.

i personaly tend to dislike both muster and nadal so i guess me and ivanisevic have consistency in our tastes!

i always liked Goran. I have to agree with him, i personally think Nadals game has more character, and i enjoy watching rafa play more than roger....just my opinion.

I can see what he means by "character". It's certainly more complex than federer's. If federer improved his backhand maybe he can get up to nadal's level.

Maybe. But there seems to be a pattern emerging. More "legends" of the game (of which I'd consider Ivanisevic to be, even if he's on the low end of the scale) seem to be skipping to Nadal's side of the fence. Agassi, Martina Navratilova. It's becoming a bit of a deluge.

At least Fed still has Jonas Bjorkman:)

Federer has to make sure he goes to bjorkman's tournament every year from now on! :)

really? He has improved his serve and forehand. I'm a big fed fan but Nadal is quite impressive. I've yet to see a big time player improve this much in his career. Nadal's forehand is now top 3-4 in the game. He hits much bigger with it now and yet, his consistency hasn't dipped. Never seen a player like him, who can pummel the ball AND never miss.

I agree Nadal is an amazing player and the way he keeps improving is both scary and praise worthy. But I would still say that Federer's serve and forehand are better than Nadal's. Those who have seen in Federer in his prime (2004-2007) know what I am talking about. There is no doubt Nadal is better than Federer in other aspects of the game such as defense but he is doesn't have Federer's serve or forehand.

I remember a time when Federer used to hit winners with his forehand from nowhere. He would unleash that beast and hit winner after winner. Nadal is not just the same type of player. Nadal hits a very heavy ball and usually doesn't go for out right winners. If you watch that Rome final of 06, you can clearly see how beastly his forehand was. If you see Nadal-Federer matches, you will notice how hard Nadal tries to avoid the Federer forehand because he knows once the ball goes there there is no chance for him. I don't think Federer is as scared of Nadal's forehand as much as Nadal is of Federer's.

uhm, I believe this is the real reason why Mr. Ivanisevic prefers Nadal.

I would not speak kindly of someone who has made me look this bad also.

i knew goran had good taste :D
Yes, a guy who smashed so many racquets during a match that he ran out of racquets and had to default the match because he had no raqcquets left to use, and a guy who ripped his own shirt to shreds after winning a match sure does have good taste.

Goran was a cool guy on tour, but I suspect he's been raiding Andre's stash lately.

Why lower his level his play?

seems like you have comprehension issues. I said "improve" which means

"
1. To raise to a more desirable or more excellent quality or condition; make better.
2. To increase the productivity or value.
3. To put to good use; use profitably."

Maybe english is not your first language, i am always here to help. How did you come to the conclusion that to improve means to lower?

Maybe your just old.

happy to help here, don't mention it.

I hope someone informs Goran and Kafelnikov to have extra bodyguards from now on because the *******s will rip them apart.

If he is to reach Fed's level, he has to lower his standard of play, as proved by the head to head record.

I think suresh understood you perfectly. You on the other hand did not understand his reply.

Kafelnikov never liked Federer for some reason. He once said Sampras was much better than Federer, and now he says Nadal will win more majors than Federer like it's written in stone.

Well sampras really used to torch kafelnikov. That davis cup match of theirs was just some unbelievable hitting from sampras on clay. I bet kafelnikov finds federer's game a bit soft compared to the sampras game and probably fancies his chances against the federer game if they were both in their primes at the same time. Just a wild guess though!

By that supreme logic, Nadal has to improve his standard of play to reach Davydenko's level. Bravo you fail at logic. well done.

and who are you? another ******* perhaps?

Nice comments by Goran :)

He had some brilliantly underrated matches with Muster on tour. That 1997 Dubai final was a classic.

I think this says it all:

Blue=Federer; Red=Nadal; circle=made it to the final

Next year is really going to be a defining year.

But seriously people, everybody has a personal preference it's no big deal.

I would have been shocked if Goran had said Federer, Goran would see Nadal as more of a man's man by his standards and he would not be impressed by Federer's fancy footwork and elegant game, Anyne who followed Goran's career and listened to his over the top, but funny interviews would agree. Gulbis in his interviews reminds me of both Goran and Safin.

How dare you disagree with Goran "the king of racquet-smashing" himself!!.
He will hunt you down and give you little ******* crybabies the royal prestige treatment:twisted:.

No way, Goran is too doped up to hunt anyone down! Only doped up guys would prefer nadal's game to federer's! :)

Seriously, who cares what all the players think? Their opinion is just like any other person's opinion. Goran like Nadal, I like Federer, life goes on.

http://www.austrianindependent.com/...5237/Ivanisevic_impressed_by_Muster_and_Nadal

"Asked whether he was more impressed by Swiss Ace Roger Federer or Spanish Star Rafael Nadal, Ivanisevic to the Salzburger Nachriten: "Nadal because his game has more character and is more physical than Federer's performances. Federer's game is inimitable and elegant, but personally I prefer Rafa".
Some journalistic license, as opposed to artistic license, from the reporter it would seem. Ivanesivic believes Federer's game is inimitable, but he is more impressed by Nadal's game? Does not seem likely. He says he prefers Nadal's game, not that it is more impressive. Inimitable means without equal and unsurpassed.

You have probaby never even seen him play...and no nothng about him,,,,before your time no doubt.

Yes?

No?

Holmes: As taken from an online dictionary, a definition of DELUGE:

http://dictionary.weather.net/dictionary/deluge

"an overwhelming amount or number"

Watson: Thus, according to octogon; including Ivanisevic, we've an overwhelming amount... of 3?

Holmes: For someone whose username hints at a (even with an 'o' rather than an 'a') mathematical influence, you sure have some basic maths to learn there soldier!
