Got killed in the set tie break. 7-0

When do you switch sides during a singles set tie breaker?

  • The Coman: 1st point, then every 4.

We switched at 6 in the traditional switching style.

The Coman tie break is in my opinion (and my opponents) better suited or doubles or maybe even singles 10 point tie breaks. We choose to switch at every 6 points just like the pros do.

What switching tie break style do you use? The Coman (at 1 then every 4 points) or the traditional style (every 6 points)

I think the bagel was just bad luck. You two looked equally matched, which is why it went to a tie-break in the first place.

You know, if you flip a coin 7 times, 1 out of 64 times will be all heads or all tails. Lady Luck can play a big role in tennis.

Also, in our doubles sets, I think I'll have us switch to the Coman way. If righty and lefty pick where to serve to avoid the sun, this will hold even in the tie-breaker. Makes it a little more fair I believe.

Lol never heard of Coman until I read this post. Just realized USTA official way is Coman, not traditional. I’ve always done traditional as that is what I see pro matches do on TV! So why haven’t pro matches changed?

I doubt the Coman is used outside of the United States to be honest. Although I'm not sure. I think it's only becoming official here. Would be very interesting to find out what they do in other countries leagues. Especially England, Spain, Italy.. where tennis is big.

Thanks for your comment. We definitely are very evenly matched. We've played about 7 times and I think it's 3-4. We always go to three sets or 10 point tie breaker when we played a USTA league. I won that one fortunately :)

You're only going to win so many points against this guy. Don't waste them on a losing effort. Save them for when you need them. If you're going to lose, lose big.
