GP Turbo vs Cage 4 which has higher heel & cushioning

I used the zoom zeros and they helped with Achilles tendonitis (after replacing insole with a medical grade orthotic which provided extra arch and heel support).

Between the gp turbo and cage 4, which shoes have a better heel rise (where the heel feels a little higher than the toes) and also good cushioning and arch support.

I found the higher heel helped with the tendinitis too. And I needed to do some PT which also helped.

If possible I would like to keep in this brand - I guess I'd rather keep it safe now that the tendonitis has disappeared.

Big difference in cushioning, with the Turbo being much better.

Lacing is much better on the Turbos too. Which is good bc you need to lace tighter to prevent heel slippage--so maybe the heel on the Turbo is higher.

Agree w. all the comments above. GP cushioning is the best (uses Nike Basketball tech). Traditional lacing system makes it easy to tighten when needed. Thought they looked too bulky at first but my go to pair now. Heard Nike might be discontinuing the GP Turbo in ‘22 but should know more once Nike releases Aussie Open gear in January. Tiafoe wears this model so we shall see.

If you're coming from another brand and have an average or narrow foot go true to size. If you wear Nike normally go half size up

Is the general recommendation to size up by half size?
I typically wear 9.5 in other brand shoes such as the Babolat propulse 2-4, Wilson Rush Pro 3, etc. for adidas SoleCourt Boosts, i size down to 9. With the GP Turbos, I went with 10s, but i was also wearing 10s with the Zoom Cage 3s.

Recommend trying on GP Turbo if you can. Normally wear 8.5 and tried a 9 as well. Felt like the 9 didn't provide enough support for achilles/slipping so went w. 8.5. Happy with choice. Only issue is they are thick, don't breathe so do get hot.

I wear 12 but for models available in 2E I can go 11.5. The GP turbo is the only shoe where I had to go 12.5. Even other "narrow" models (like the Vapor X, React Vapor NXT, or Eclipsion) I did not have to go 12.5 but with the GP Turbos I had to.

I did go with turbo. A little tight, but true to size for me. The cushioning is great. It took me a few hours for the shoes to mold to me. Still preferred the zoom zeros though.

ive got both, and the gp turbo has way more cushioning underfoot. thick and springy foam. they feel a little like clown shoes, but i havent wanted to put on anything else since i got mine

Cage2, Cage4: 6
Cage 3, Vapors: 6.5

I went with 6.5 in the Turbo, 6 would have been impossible.

Did you use the lace locks when trying on the 9s?

Yes. Still went with 8.5’s. After breaking them in happy went true to size, 8.5. Have a narrow/flat foot though. If you’re wide might need to size up. Again, recommend trying on for yourself. Nike has easy returns so can order multiple sizes and return the other.

Yeah, if you have a narrow foot, true to size makes sense.

For me, I use an orthotic insert in my turbos and my heel doesn't feel quite as locked in as they did in the zoom zeros. I felt if I went up a half size it would make that worse. Very comfortable and cushioned shoe aside from that issue. Manageable heel issue just not perfect.

I had the same problem, using custom orthotic inserts too. Try using the second hole of the top laces, helped me…

Cage 4 has a higher heel-to-toe drop of 15mm. Meaning your heel sits 15mm higher then your forefoot.
The GP Turbo is 12mm. Which is still decent for tennis shoes. Asic Gel Res 8 & FF2 are 12mm also.
I usually face issues when the drop is 10mm or lower.

Appreciate that insight. Where do you find out that info. I struggle to see it anywhere.

Anyone playing the GP’s have a high mid (top) foot? I find the Zoom Zero’s pinch with the seam on the tongue and trying to avoid this. Unfortunately I can not try on so have to rely on feedback. TIA

I think I do, although I don't know what the threshold is. Haven't had that issue. Just a little heel movement.

I'm on pairs #3 and #4 right now. I've only experienced the pinching (between the tongue and collar) once with no show socks on pair #3 while it was breaking in. Pair #4 had a scratchy tongue (the US Open white/gold colorway) at the beginning of break in. Other than that, none of them have bothered me too much in the tongue area. I think I have a high top foot like you described.

Just to be clear, I am referring to the Zero’s having the tight seam above the tongue. You’re talking about the GP’s correct?
