Enough with all of this GOAT SHMOAT B.S. already!

It's time to discuss what really matters in each of our lives.

Yes, I'm talking about GPOAT.
Greatest Pleasure Of All Time.

Which ATP tennis players have given you the greatest pleasure watching them play tennis, in all the time you have been on this planet?

For me it's a no-brainer.
In chronological order.

1. Mecir
2. Sampras
3. Federer

For people who simply can not understand the obvious...
Here I'll help you.
I'll spell it out for you, so you can answer properly.

We are back to esthetics, beautiful backhands and popularity contests  wohooo

Yes, but it's sad to see that no one above seems to be interested in these qualities of tennis.
Or they are all in agreement with my three choices.

I will simply assume that's the case (unless they say otherwise).
They all loved watching Mecir, Sampras and Federer above all the rest of the players.

Could you be more clear with JJ and ana?
I can think of multiple players with those initials/names.

But if they are women, please read my first post again.
This thread is only for ATP players.

I may start a similar thread for WTA players, but given the number
of members here who have their heads stuck in the gutter, it's probably
best I stay away from that. :(

All ?
Only ones who found such insights interesting did that. They do not represent whole forum.

Watching Djokovic has been the highlight of my tennis fan experience over 40 years. Especially when he played Federer with his neo-BH.

I don't want anybody else
When I think about you, I touch myself, ooh

I close my eyes
And see you before me
Think I would die If you were to ignore me

A fool could see
Just how much I adore you
I get down on my knees
I'd do anything for you

I touch myself
I touch myself
I touch myself
I touch myself
I touch myself
I touch myself
I touch myself
I honestly do
I touch myself
I touch myself
I touch myself
I honestly do [Outro]
I touch myself
I touch myself

I touch myself

It's a shame that this thread didn't get more (real) responses, as it goes to the enjoyment of the sport itself. I understand each of your choices, as I really enjoyed Mecir's style and Roger and Pete (though I rooted for Agassi) would both rank very high for me...kind of speak for themselves.

Watching tennis for 50 years, this is so hard to restrict to three names, but here goes an attempt.

Believe it or not - when he wasn't being a complete jerk - Ilie Nastase. Athletic, charismatic and - for that era - had all the shots.

Patrick Rafter fought hard, and was also a great sport...he had an intrepid style of play. I took to his rough-and-tumble serve and volley game more so than Edberg's much smoother version.

So many, but I would say that the first time I saw Rafa play (I want to say it was his 2004 Davis Cup match versus Roddick), it was exhilarating. The athleticism, the shot making, the exuberance.

Nadal
Wawrinka
Rafter
Vilas
Muster
Connors
Fedr
Supermac
Escude
Keurten
Sampras
Dre
Hewitt
Edberg
Forget

And I suspect in a few years these guys will be added:
SinnerGOAT
Alcaraz
Shelton
Rune
Korda (hopefully)

ROSEWALL
SAMPRAS
FEDERER
DJOKOVIC
NADAL
ALCARAZ.
There are others, but these are my all-time favorites, game wise.

Raul, I never restricted this to just three players!
Check what I wrote in my post.

I just happened to pick three myself. Some copied me (three) others posted more.
But then some also had difficulty understanding my English, ignoring ATP and posted women. ;)
That will be another thread.

Yes the thread got off to a slow start, due to some immature posters
always anxious to spoil threads and show off their deviant behavior.

I hope more people will contribute, in a more serious manner, going forward.

Fair enough. Well, stopping at three, kept me from naming 50 or more.
But okay, one more quirky pick - Alexandr Dolgopolov. I always found the 'Dolg" f: ascinating to watch whenever I had the pleasure to see him play, which wasn't often enough.

Henin. No one could build points like her.

Players like Gonzo were fun for the wow factor of where did that winner come from???

I always loved the young Graf, she had this predatory quality which I thought was beautiful.

McEnroe at his 1984 best.

2005 Federer - not even his most successful year but for the sheer joyfulness of his play. Also the last year before the image makers got him.

2011 Djokovic. All the focus on his subsequent numbers has meant the beauty of his play this year has been overlooked

Stan. Love the way he seems to pause before hitting that backhand.

1. Mecir

2. Djokovic

3. Borg

4. Federer

5. Sampras

6. Lendl

7. Santoro

8. Safin

9. Edberg

10. And Rosewall from older players whom I saw only on screen and youtube

I remember an interview with Mecir after winning the tournament in Germany, where he was asked why he always had impeccable behaviour. He answered that his mother always reminded him to be like that… His playing style and shots were unorthodox, unpredictable and almost artistic. However, I also love and appreciate other aspects in the player’s game including drive for improvement, mental fortitude and strategy, which I find enjoyable.
