Who has reached a GS final only once in their career and won it (besides Gomez 90 and Majoli 97)?
Gaudio, Costa, Johanson
I think this is comprehensive among Open Era winners. Corrections welcome -- I did not spend more than half an hour on it.
Sue Barker (76 F)
Chris O'Neill (78 A)
Barbara Jordan (79 A)
Iva Majoli (97 F)
Anastasia Myskina (04 F)
Andres Gimeno (72 F)
Mark Edmonson (76 A)
Adriano Panatta (76 F)
Brian Teacher (80 A)
Yannick Noah (83 F)
Andres Gomez (90 F)
Thomas Muster (95 F)
Richard Krajicek (96 W)
Thomas Johansson (02 A)
Albert Costa (02 F)
Gaston Gaudio (04 F)
Ah yes, Adriano Panatta. The only guy to beat Borg at the French Open - Bjorn lost there in '73 and '76, and skipped the event in '77. Astounding!
What about Petr Korda's AO win. Was he in another Slam final?
Also, Kuznetsova 2004 USO
Think he was in the French final. Think he lost Courier.
Yes, in '92.
Kuznetsova lost last year's FO final.
she won 04 US open
She went to last years FO final and lost.
Didn't Pat Cash only get to one GS final?
Cash lost in 88 to Wilander at the Aus Open. Great match btw.
He also lost in 87 to Edberg at the AO, also in 5 sets.
Damm!, I thought this was question on Lendle who reached 19 slam finals...
5 setters in a Slam final are rare too. I remember Wimby 2001, some French Opens with Gaudio-Korea, Agassi-Medvedev but thats about it right nows. Anyone remember more?
Yeah there has been a drought recently. Agassi over Martin in the 99' USO comes to mind.
There was Sampras over Ivanisevic at Wimbledon the year before.
but it wasn't her only final i thought that waas the point of this thread only one grand slam final and won it too
