Interesting. Sampras is 3 GS ahead of Rafa but he’s almost 4 years older(base from your list).

Yeah it's just a period where I thought Sampras and Federer had their best results overall. Nadal doesn't have enough years really so I had to use 2004 where he missed F and W.

To explain further, I just took a 6 year period where they had good results (and almost all of Nadal's results) and wanted to see how dominant they were at grand slams. Nadal's results are a tad skewed because of his 2004 year, where he didn't play W or F and got to 3R and 2R of Australian and US Open, respectively. So it would be better if we used 2010 for Nadal's results to compare these same years with Fed and Sampras.

Sorry but it has to be 6 wins.

Yup also amazing Nadal results at such a young age. I'm going to do an 18-23 years old thread for the 3 of em

That would prove your point that Nadal is ahead of the curve, set by Sampras and Fed. But it doesn't mean that he can maintain this pace, or get better with age.

I live hour and half north of NYC just curious. NY is a big state you never know how close people are. I am in Middletown.

Where do you play in the winter?

Even though Roger had accomplished so much and Nadal did it at such a young age, but they took a lot away from one another. Had for Nadal not being around, Roger would of won multiple FO titles including 2 calendar slams. Which would leave Laver in dust. If Roger wasn’t around, Nadal would have been yearend #1 for 4 years(2005-08), and very likely 2009. There would have been talk about him chasing Pete’s record for 6 years #1 and maybe 286 weeks at #1.

I find it funny that some people say Federer and Nadal are lucky when in fact they are very unlucky to play in the same era. Pete and Agassi also had to gave up some of their success when they met, but not as much as Roger and Nadal. Only Martina and Chris are the two players that were more unlucky than Fed/Nadal. They took away so many slams and titles away from one another. I think Graf is very lucky to avoid playing in the same era as Martina/Chris.

I looked at GS losses at the US Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open by both Federer and Sampras as part of another thread entirely, but I thought this was interesting.

Oh that's nice. I've been to New Paltz a few times to hike and stuff. I play on LI.

New Paltz is nice. Great place to hike! Minnewaska state park is real nice. IF you ever go back try the Guilded Otter, resteraunt/brewery pretty sweet place!

But why left out the Australian Open?

TMF, you're welcome. As to the AO, I would have looked at their losses at the AO also in comparing Sampras/Federer, but in another thread, I was also looking at Borg's losses in the GS's. So, I left out the AO, because the top players didn't play it during that time frame.

Not good.

How far did the player go if he didn't win the GS?
This is what you should be looking at.

Losing in the final is much better than losing in the QF.
