to see who really is the best this year and make it harder to win the Grand Slam, why don't they make either USO or AO wooden surface. That way it takes more skill and variation to get the career grand slam, and there will be more interesting matches as players adapt to different surfaces.

They shouldn't have slowed down the grass at Wimby. That's the only change I would make to speed up Wimby a bit.

At the end of the day though, Nadal has clearly proven he can win anywhere (i.e., he's won now at both the USO and AO against good competition in the finals). So I don't necessarily think it means this would hurt his results much. I do think if the grass had been faster, Fed would've won Wimby '08.

Totally agree with the OP and second post.

Also ice. And beach sand. And tar. And water. And lava.

Everything's better with lava.

They should just give it all up and play every slam on fire.

There isn't a single GS that is considered fast paced by the ITF's court pace ratings anymore, why even bother changing surfaces if they make all of them play as close to the same as possible. That was the ITF's plan in 2002 and that is what we have now. They homogenized the game.

It's fine how it is.

Rafa already shown how to adapt.

no, he's shown how not to adapt, as he always plays the same way.

you shouldn't be able to win on all surfaces with the same game...

why even have grandslams at all?

to all you that think we should play on hot coals and stuff, they used to play on wood, grass, etc. so why are you saying hot coals? that has no relevance...

USO is pretty fast still. If I'm not mistaken it's about the same speed as Cincy and probably only Basel and Bercy are faster nowadays. Dubai looks pretty damn fast to me as well. Oh, Lyon as well.

The only major tournament played this year on a court with a fast court pace rating from the ITF was Paris with a CPR rating of 45 and it barely made it. Fast CPR is from 45-50.

I believe USO was rated at 41 IIRC.

The USO is not fast, I play there all the time, its medium speed. Everything else on tour is reeeaally slow and Cincy is Medium Fast,

Bercy might be the only genuine fast court.

They had 4 different surfaces until the scrapped ReboundAce at the AO.
Steffi did win the career grand slam before that.
Even within a single year.

us open is fast, the same as last year, but since nadal won it, it has automaitcally turned to clay lol. The excuses just never stop

Lol, so now that Nadal has won the USO, the slam haters said he'd never win, now the surface needs changing

wanna look at when I joined?

Were you complaining about AO when Federer won it? That is around where you joined, right? And, did you start watching tennis when you joined or what? You never discussed tennis before joining this board? Anyways, my point is this constant BS about slow surfaces wasn't even close to what we have now when Federer was dominating, I wonder why that is? :)

Yeah, that's why the prime time Fed beat Rafa in the 2006 and 2007 Wimbledons and got destroyed at the 2006 and 2007 FOs... because Wimbledon and FO are the same surface

I think they should just make one carpet slam - just because carpet is my favorite surface. The AO, maybe?

Correct. Watch the ball bounce at Wimbledon now...watch older footage. Completely different.
