Grand Slammer Ken Fletcher died

urban

Legend
I read today, that the Aussie tennis player Ken Fletcher died of cancer. Fletcher isn't as famous as his Queensland comtemporaries Rod Laver and Roy Emerson, but was indeed a true Grand Slammer, winning the mixed Grand Slam with Margaret Court in 1963. The same year he was Australian finalist, losing to Emerson. In 1965 i think he won the Wimbledon doubles with Newcombe. He is said th have one of the best forehands in the 60s.I think, i saw him as kid on tv in the late 60s, when he played the German Championships at Hamburg.

Believe cancer of some sort. Won 10 mixed doubles grand slam titles including the career mixed grand slam and 2 grand slam men's doubles titles, 1964 French with Emerson and 1966 Wimbledon with Newcombe. A very colorful character overshadowed by some of the more famous Aussies of the time.
