Del Potro and his backhand is something so weak in this match, at least he was hitting it in US open and Olympics. Look at it now, he even slices the passing shots. I was impressed by his progress in those tournaments, now he is just back to slicing everything.

Murray is to blame here to make this match so competitive, shouldnt be happening.

Dont you think its late now? If you dont take your opportunities against Big 4, they raise their game and its over. 7-5 This set to Murray.

In Davis Cup though, I've seen a lot of strange and wacky matches where top players come in tired/injured not terribly motivated and end up losing or getting pushed to 5 sets. Remember Djokovic got pushed to 5 sets in Davis Cup earlier this year by Kukushkin, and was actually down 2-1 before coming back. And that's a guy he would probably beat 2, 2, and 3 in a grand slam.

Kazakhstan are a strange case, Kukushkin and Golubev really give it all everytime. Golubev is a wasted talent. Spent more time to rig matches than taking his career seriously.

Murray doing exactly as predicted, raising his game after opponent fails to take advantage. How many times we have seen this from Big 4? They are unreal.

How predictable was this? Should have just donated the set after Murray got the break back.

Kind of ironic because earlia Murray got screwed out of a point that was clearly a let but the point didnt get replayed and he said to the umpire "Might as well just start the 4th set then" and that was when he was still down a break. Yet here he is, winning the 3rd set.

Ha ha I can't believe that all Murray can do is chip to the nonexistent backhand and hope for mistakes. :)
He WILL NOT dare to really attack, or take any kind of risk.

Thank Goodness he's 6-25 against the Real Big 4 since 2013, and that's 6 wins more than his current game deserves.
This is disgusting to watch.

Ha ha. I'd really like to support Murray. He's the closest to me culturally of the Big 4. I try.

But gosh he's UNBEARABLE. He's like the playground bully who holds the boy in a wheelchair's lunch above his head, just because he can. But when a fit guy challenges him he whines about unfairness.
So Del Potro his hurt, and he's winning. But how does he expect to win against better players by playing so "conservative" (polite for "sleep-inducing")?
No chance.

Murray lacks attacking skills thats why this match is so competitive. There is no way Delpo would make it so good against player like Wawrinka, Nishikori.

It's a shame really because Murray is so good when he really goes for his shots, but it's never been the core of his game, moreso since 2012 but still.

It was, back in 2008-2010. Check out those matches (esp. versus Nadal in USO, AO), they're fabulous.

And now he's traded in his raw skill for some odd idea of consistency. This endless retrieving isn't sustainable against fit players, that's why he takes a pummeling almost every time.

Something that never gets old, however, is how these top guys - including Delpo - are SO TOUGH mentally.
They just don't give up. They can miss the most frustrating of shots, then be robbed of a point most unfairly, and still they won't get disheartened in a sport where a moment's distraction can cost you the set.

Very impressive that way.
