Plays tomorrow first match on court 2. It's best being early.

6.30 EST

Simona Halep (ROU) [3]
v
Zarina Diyas (KAZ)

Be there.

BTW, I've updated the list of links to Simona's matches at W in the above.

Diyas hits her FH hard enough to defend her first serving round
Halep defends to love
1-1
then breaks to love
2-1 Halep

I don't like to see the heavy thigh bandage on Halep -- a first for her

Anyway, Halep won categorically, and showed some of her all-court mastery has been adapted to grass.

I think that should be enough to beat Lisicki, who had a much tougher time with Schvedova, tomorrow.

Personally I think crybaby, womanchild Lisicki will have too much firepower for Halep. She'll then proceed to self-destruction in the final against someone she's supposed to beat.

After seeing the mental game Lisicki played with Schvedova when on BP for Schvedova 1-1 in the 3rd he asked for medical TO DURING THE GAME AND SHE INTERRUPTED PLAY FOR 10 MIN I wish Halep to give her a good lesson.

And I'm confident she will.

I hope so too but I'm not confident at all. Lisicki is almost unplayable at Wimbledon and last year she was only beaten because she sabotaged herself. I can't see her committing suicide in the quarters, only in the final.

On paper now, based on prev experience, the favorite is Kvitova.

Let's see.

However, also on paper, Halep is leading career-wise with all the ladies left in the tournament :)

After an initial shock at Lisicki's power, Halep is on serve, and begins to move L around.

The returning is crucial here for both.

4-3 Lisicki, Halep serving 40-15 no troubles

Halep is classy and will administer a lesson to this cheating Lisicky, asking yesterday for a totally unjustified MTO AT BREAKPOINT AGAINST HER, at 1-1 in the 3rd set, in the middle of the game, just to disturb Schvedova, which she did after a 10 min interruption.

Stupid rules, of course, and L, with her MD father, was informed and cheeky enough to use it.

5-4 Halep serving for the set
and TAKING IT.

Halep and Bouchard are two trains running irremediably toward each other

1-0 5-0 Halep

British commentators: "A sumptuous victory, and a desperate defeat. A fantastic victory."

This poll (and myself) were then right in saying that Simona Halep will reach the SFs.

Great progress for her in the slams this year, thus congratulations.

The day after the match.

Virginia Ruzici, Simona Halep's manager, and a former Roland Garros champion, says in an interview in the Romanian press:
---
There were two key moments in the match.

First, the ankle injury. At the time, it wasn't too painful, but later, while playing, it started to count for a lot. Anyway, the ankle started to swell. She [Halep] had a great desire to continue. In fact, I'd say she felt it impossible to withdraw in such a match, in a GS semifinal.

[Then the second key moment was the interruption during the TB]
Indeed, this interruption, which was quite long, was very important. It took her out of her rhythm, then she gave up -- too disappointed with everything that had happened.

There were some factors playing against her, but let us not forget the opponent, who was extremely tough. It seems to me she [Bouchard] had a very good ratio offense-defense, she played very well.

Great news: Simona Halep (or the managers of her twitter account :)) has favored a tweet of mine quoting this very thread chronicling her Wimbledon performance:

Awesome Marius!

Do you have the link?

You mean, of her favoring my tweet?

Let me see ...

It came in Notifications, and those can be seen only by me, the owner of the twitter account, I think. However, I found this reference to my original message:
