    Halep b Konjuh
after a very tight game, with hard hitting.
Konjuh hits FH with an extended arm, for lots of leverage. Very dangerous player.
Good elements: coming to the net, swinging volleys.
Missing: slice, which would have helped with a power player.
Halep played a cool, controlled game.
Good to see her move well. Small band under left knee: probably to protect against patella tendonitis,
    like Nadal had once.

Worrying: she seems to have lost serious weight just in the last 2 weeks. Was it recommended to make her speedier or to reduce the load on the knees (see above)?

Next Natalia Vikhlyantseva, who beat Kasatkina, both 19. Tall girl, Natalia.

Simona WOs in St.P. with knee pain, after again previously saying she's fine

    @ Marius_Hancu
@Simona_Halep fire your whole team and go to @ rogerfederer trainer, Pierre Paradis, and doctors. Roger is the ironman as a result #halepeno

    Natalia Vikhlyantseva -> #88.

The Indian Wells 2017 draw is out.

    Halep's path: Bye, Riske, Mladenovic/Bouchard , Sevastova/Stosur, Cibulkova/Keys, Radwanska/Kerber, S. Williams/Pliskova/Konta

I'd say very reasonable. Not that Mladenovic is easy.

    I'd quite forgotten about Halep.
I hope she does well, but I won't hold my breath. She's too frustrating to support - tactically limited.

    vs. Mladenovic
    a very tough proposition
as Mladenovic is 2-1 with Halep
is in the form of her life (and Halep's just coming back)
and doesn't beat herself, like Vekic does.

How many tweets did you send out this time to Halep's team instructing them how to proceed with Halep's career? :D

    Temper, Temper!

I have a Twitter acct where I use my real name and I would never in a million years tweet some of the embarrassing crap you tweet. You should think about using an anonymous twitter acct to tweet some of those beauties!

Don't take your frustrations out on other posters because you idolize a losing horse (Halep.) ;)

    Halep's path:
    Bye, Osaka, ...
I think we should wait with bated breath to see what happens in the 2nd R,
the way things are with Simona these days:
she seems to have restarted treadmill work only 2 days ago
(this, to me is not enough if she really has knee problems - unprofessional advice
or her not listening. She should have had a least a month
    after start of treadmill).
    Very tough match,

    Halep b. Osaka in three
All in all, a good return. Shaky in the 2nd, after a rain delay.
Good timing, contact on returns and serves at the best. Needs more than 1 slice + 1 volley.

What do you think of Tig, Marius? Halep moves beautifully, but I think Tig has a lot more game. She definitely competes better than Halep, at least for the last year.

Tig definitely has game, starting with her serve: she's the only one of the Romanian players using the platform stance (Sampras/Federer), which I recommended for Halep over a year ago with no results.

However, I have been concerned with her disappearance after Madrid last year. Let's see.
She has some problems in mobilizing her athleticism at times.

Halep Triumphs At Night In Miami, Stosur Looms Next

Simona Halep enjoyed a comprehensive victory over Estonian qualifier Anett Kontaveit to book a fourth round meeting with Samantha Stosur at the Miami Open.
    ---
    It's 4 - 4 with Stosur.
    Halep seemed physically OK.
Needs more than 0 slices + 0 volleys + 0 dropshots (today) to beat the very best.

    She might well be: #458
    It might be a mono:
    ---
    [2016:]
“It’s the Eppstein-Barr virus,” she explained. “I think it’s the stress, too — like, when I travel I feel more stressed and [you feel] the pressure that you have to play well — but I’m not feeling good and then it’s all about stress, I guess, this disease. Now I decided to take it a little easier and see how it goes. Right now, I don’t want to push myself more, for sure — better less than nowhere.”

The Epstein-Barr virus is best known as the cause of mononucleosis, and with regards to dealing with a disease that made its presence felt amongst tennis players in recent years, Kanepi didn’t have to look all that far to get help and advice.

There’s another Estonian player [Anett Kontaveit] who also had mono and her mom told my fitness trainer what they did and then we got some ideas,” Kanepi said.

Halep Surges Through Late Night Thriller Over Stosur

Great fighting spirit shown by Halep against Stosur from the end of the 2nd set.
She won this time (Stosur's 33), but she would do well to master the skills with which Stosur pushed her to the brink of matchpoint:

    - the ATP forehand, used by Henin to beat the power players
    - the slice
    - general variety: coming to the net, dropshots
    - a better serve

    if she wants GSs.

Well, she had a really good tourney this week. Beat Mladenovic. I thought she had a decent chance to beat Williams, too, before that match. But Williams hasn't played that well in about 3 years. I think things will get easier for her when she gets her ranking up: no more qualies. She has a lot of potential and her game is fun to watch. Any baseliner -- which is all of them now -- not afraid of coming to net, and volleys well, is a keeper.

Heard interesting tennis podcast suggesting that Cahill has decided not to take advantage of on court coaching visits to Halep as they are not allowed in Grand slams. Practice like you play...hope these two have a successful year together.

I feel bad for Cahill having to try his best to work on her biggest weakness, located above her shoulders. Total basket case today.:(

Yes, arrived on the scene too late to deal with her biggest weaknesses located below her shoulders. I see what you did there (at least I hope that's what you were aiming for.. you should just claim it anyway).

You know what they say about one's greatest strength also being their greatest weakness.

Konta showing clearly better variety today, it turning the match. Halep needs the net, the volleys, the dropshots.

The "great hope" she's supposed to embody is looking more and more like the "ready to rise and conquer the world" of the Bouchard thread.

Reminds me of Henin's struggles as an undersized player

For years Henin, along with Mauresmo and Clijsters, was the best player who hadn't won a major

I feel like there is a lesson there for Halep.

...Except that she finished top 5 for the past 3 consecutive seasons and won 14 titles, including several big tournaments, and she did not offend anyone in the process....

True. I should've added "notwithstanding x, y and z". Nonetheless, her as a "great hope" is becoming difficult to sustain.

How many thought in 2015 that Kerber will have such a successful year at 28 after a rather average career, way below what Halep achieved by 25? 7 out of her 10 titles came in 2015 (4 Premier titles) and 2016 (2 GS+ 1 Premier). Go figure.....

I'd rather see Halep gradually building up her career by wining big tournaments, in significant numbers before winning a GS. She still has time and I think she's still in it working her way up.... Look at the one tournament/GS wonders that are fading away immediately after. Players like Serena, Venus, Sharapova that bloomed early and managed to stay on top for a long time are not the norm but the exception.

A good move, suggested here for a long time: Halep has hired a mental coach.
I think we saw the first results of that already in Stuttgart.
