After this year does anyone else have an even greater appreciation for Federer's achievements?
From 2004-2008, he won 5 consecutive U.S. Opens. Since then, there have been four different champions.
Federer won 3 majors in 2004, then won 2 in 2005. Federer won 3 majors in 2006, then won 3 in 2007. Nadal won 3 majors in 2010, then won only 1 in 2011. Djokovic won 3 majors in 2011, then won only 1 in 2012.
Since the 2010 Wimbledon, Djokovic has reached 10 consecutive semifinals or better at the majors, winning 4 majors, reaching 3 finals, and 3 semifinals. Normally, this would be a remarkable achievement. However, when Federer began his streak of 23 consecutive semifinals, it started with 7 majors, reaching 1 final, and 2 semifinals.
