Greatest Dessert of All Time

ceejay

Semi-Pro
Whilst the GOAT discussions are often entertaining, most leave me feeling a little empty and unfulfilled. Dessert on the other hand is usually very satisfying, and one can actually become too full on it.

My nomination for the title of greatest dessert of all time goes to this lovely creamy cheesecake, topped with a delicious lemonliness. Mmmmmm... it is tasty....

Is this not the greatest dessert of all time? Which dessert do you reckon the title should go to? And, finally, if you had the choice, would you rather talk about the tennis GOAT, or stuff your face full of sumptious cheesecake?

I think I may go and have another piece.

I can't choose, there are so many that I love more than anything...
To list a few right off the bat;

Pancakes with strawberry jam/ice cream/sugar and cinnamon or syrup if it's american pancakes
Banana split
Watermelon
Brownies
Chocolat pudding
Ice cream

etc. etc. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CHOOSE! I guess it depends on what you havent had in a long time or something.

Saharaha.

Ricotta and mascarpone cheesecake at Cesca's (upper west side, Manhattan).

Never had that particular one, but ricotta cheese cake is fabulous.

However, being a southern gentleman, the best is bread pudding right out of the oven topped with Bryer's vanilla ice creme.

Hey "Beautiful Places/Smiling Faces" (tennis-n-sc):

Since when do "Southern Gentlemen" use the term "fabulous?" I thought "fabulous" was only used by affected, balding hairdressers in N.Y. who sport ponytails, too much jewelry and who always wear black.

Anyway, as far as "Southern Gentleman" desserts go, you're telling me that a "Moon Pie" and an "RC Cola" wouldn't top yer list?? ;-)

As for "southern," I'm partial to Bananas Foster but could happily "settle" for either Peach Cobbler or Pecan Pie. :-)

That's not dessert. That's lunch.

P.S. I can remember as far back as 3rd grade eating a moon pie with a glass of sweet tea as an after-school snack.

My mom makes an awesome Pumpkin Cheesecake.
Cheesecake Factory's Key Lime Pie Cheesecake is good, too.

You southerners are sure proud of your Moon Pies. I attended a wedding in the south this summer and when we checked into our hotel, a gift basket filled with Moon Pies, bottled Coke, and Crystal Burger coupons was waiting for us. Prefer Moon Pie after 15 seconds in the microwave. I also agree that RC would be a better complement.

As for my favorite desserts... my aunt's cheesecake cookie. Graham cracker crust, her personal lemon cheesecake mix, and topped with more buttery graham cracker crust. Can't wait for Thanksgiving!

I was going to say Bananas Foster, I can't believe someone actually beat me to that. Also being a southerner, a Dallasite in particular, we had lots of bananas foster growing up, but did manage to completely avoid moon pies. That was either before my generation (which I can't imagine anything could be) or skipped over most of Dallas, thank goodness. Amaretto cheesecake is a very close second.

Dang! Caught again. By the way, a balding hairdresser has to use some tricks of the trade to sport a pony tail.;)

I actually had a moon pie the other day. But RC Colas are hard to come by.

Oh, as an aspiring pastry chef, I have to say I really like this thread. :D

My favorite dessert is cheesecake. I don't care- cream cheese, riccota, mascarpone, it's all delicious. My favorite topping is raspberries, but I just had some caramel-apple cheesecake and it's tasty. Tiramisu is quite delicious as well. Also, chocolate ravioli. Mmmmm...XD

Chocolate Fondue at "The Melting Pot" restaurant, Richmond, VA.

Involves skewering fresh pineapple, strawberries, apples, ect. and dunking them in a little vat of hot bubbling chocolate. Incredibly delicious and a must for fondue virgins.

I had a good experience with hot apple something with vanilla ice-cream. I had it after lunch, along with some coffee, and it gave me so much energy I played two sets with a friend and we split them 0-6, 6-0, seriously. I had so much energy from dessert, I was totally going for everything, except in first set I was overhitting everything. That experience taught me to think more about what I eat and how I sleep instead of racquets and strings. Anyone had similar blood sugar experiences?

Yeah, Diego. We've got that here, man! And flan too. We even have that serious cake with the three milks (tres leches).

But that fondue au chocolat that ktownva mentioned sounds unbelievable right now.
Key lime pie. Mousse au chocolat. Green Tea ice cream after sushi and sashimi. Coffee Ice Cream with a little spike?

I remember a hell of a dessert after a long night at a club in Rome. Went home to the suburbs with these Italian birds and their mamma fixed us a platter of melons to eat out on their porch. A-very niice.

Best dessert ever: our honeymoon, late-late-night Nutella crepes on some side street in the Latin Quarter. Then a ham & cheese one in the morning.

So can we agree that Nutella is proof that God loves humanity? :D

Hahaha, yeah, but NO!
It is far more complicated than that.

You see, you and I call him God...one with the Spirit.
And we believe He came down from heaven and gave us His grace, His mercy, and His Nutella as a talisman of his love. We must bless Him and not take that for granted.

Others insist Nutella is actually the latest in a long line of prophets -- only this one is made for the flesh. And for expanding that flesh, especially around the belly.

Still others say Nutella is merely a great teacher whose claims went overboard, and that all religions preach the same message of tolerance, compassion, and chocolate/hazelnut deliciousness.

A man of God once unfolded a Nutella crepe out of curiosity. The Holy Mother of the Lord appeared to all bystanders inside the crepe. Some were awed, some converted, some simply ate. But, the gypsy lady in line next to the man thought it was an image of herself, and started her own Nutella cult. It's amazing how successful she is now. She drives a Bentley and wears a Gold Nugget Watch.

This is the way it goes sometimes when you get a good thing from The Man Upstairs.

wow - thought i popped into the wrong thread for a moment.

After a great day at the 2004 US Open, the wife and I were wondering around Manhatten looking for a place to eat. We happened upon this little hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant. I have no idea of the name or location, other than it was within walking distance of 59th & Park (or whatever that street is that boarders Central Park).

Anyway, the food was absolutely GREAT. For dessert we decided to split a piece of cheesecake. Well, that cheesecake was very unusual, and very very delicious. So, we "split" a second piece, except that I ate almost all of it. They waiter came around again, and I ordered a THIRD piece (and this was after a full meal)!

I still think about that cheesecake. I hope I can someday find that place again. It was fairly nice, but pretty small. Had room for maybe 10 - 15 tables.

We had several great meals in NYC, but that's the place we both remember.

Cheesecake, ice cream, crepes and melted chocolate on fruit??!!?? I am not a big dessert eater but for the GOAT dessert I would have thought you guys would be coming up with something a bit more inspired than those pedestrian selections.

Mississippi Mud.
Layer of chocolate pudding
Layer of Crunched Oreos
Layer of pudding
Layer of whipped cream

Personally, I prefer a Cheerwine or Sun Drop with my Moon Pie.

I am going to develop a chocolate orange chocolate chip cheesecake, and that will be the greatest dessert in the history of civilization.

Yeah, we're total white trash. Kidding. It's the simple things done well. You wanna get highbrow on us now? Have at it, martini man.

I saw an image of baby Jesus once in my crepe. I should have sold it on ****.

You're not one of those psychos who puts processed cheese on their pie, are you?
Not on top, what good does that do? I'm thinking half a pie, then small tub of Haagen-Daz. Somebody's getting fat...hehe

Yeah, I'm in Los Angeles. A Brazilian friend introduced me to panqueque con dulce y leche. I'm not sure it's Brazilian or Argentinian, though. Also, my girlfriend and I frequently brunch at a Brazilian restaurant that has dulce de leche on the dessert buffet. I could easily live in the restaurant until, of course, its time for my court reservation.

I had a nutella and banana crepe for breakfast today and yesterday (there is a stand by my office). They were delicious. It reminds me of when we went to the French Open the last couple of years since those stands are everywhere. Fantastique!

Okay, I'm a pretty simple girl, so the best dessert would have to be a Peanut Buster Parfait, triple fudge, easy on the ice cream (more room in the cup for the fudge this way)
