This is one of the most overrated matches ever.

Overrated lmao  what constitutes overratedness

I can’t believe I haven’t realized how bad this forum is at arguing crap

Yes, because all of the greatest matches have come since 2005. I would suggest the following for most rounds (can't think of any 2nd/3rd round epics to counter your suggestions at present, but there must be some)

1R: Gonzales-Pasarell, W 1969
2R:
3R:
4R: Chang-Lendl, FO 1989
QF: Sampras-Agassi, US 2001
SF: Borg-Gerulaitis, W 1977
F: Nadal-Federer, W 2008

How is someone supposed to rate a match they have never seen?

That is impossible and inappropriate. To rate a match you have to see it at the time when it was played. I am sure that Phoenix1983 is slightly older than me (I am close to 60) so he sow all matches he mentioned.

From a pro-Rafa point of view (matches not involving Rafa but that benefited his legacy):
Rd 1: Roger Federer v Luis Horna - RG 2003
Rd 2: Roger Federer v Sergiy Stakhovsky - Wimbledon 2013
Rd 3: Novak Djokovic v Sam Query - Wimbledon 2016
Rd 4: Roger Federer v John Millman - US Open 2018
QF: Federer v Anderson - Wimbledon 2018
SF: Federer v Djokovic - RG 2011
F: USO 2009, USO 2012, Wimby 2013, Wimby 2014, Wimby 2015, USO 2015, RG 2016, USO 2016

The heartbreakers:
Rd 1: Rafa v Darcis - Wimby 2013
Rd 2: Rafa v Rosol - Wimby 2012
Rd 3: Rafa v Fabio - USO 2015
Rd 4: Rafa v Soderling - RG 2009
QF: Rafa v Djokovic - RG 2015
SF: Rafa v Djokovic - Wimby 2018
F: AO 2012, 2014 & 2017, Wimby 2011, USO 2011

I think Wawrinka vs. Novak AO 13 is the best 4th Round match of the OE.

Lot of great quarterfinals but I mean Roddick vs. El Aynaoui was just insane.

The semis & final are always going to be controversies but I go with Borg v. McEnroe 1980 followed by 09 Wimbledon. Yes 09>08 in my opinion.

For semifinal I pick Safin v. Fed AO 05. Always about both guys having match points no? Close behind is USO 11 between Novak & Roger.

Chang-Lendl the greatest because Chang actually won the tournament IMO. Djokorinka was better tennis, but greatness includes other factors too.

So many choices: AO 69 Laver-Roche, Wim 74 Rosewall-Smith, AO 75 Newcombe-Roche (poor Tony), Wim 77 Borg-Gerulaitis, USO 80 Mac-Jimbo, USO 84 Mac-Jimbo and Lendl-Cash (GOAT day), AO 85 Edberg-Lendl, AO 91 Lendl-Edberg, USO 92 Edberg-Chang, Wim 95 Pete-Goran, AO 04 Safin-Agassi, AO 05 Safin-Fed, AO 09 Nadal-Verdasco, USO 11 Djok-Fedr, RG 13 Nadal-Djokr, Wim 18 Djoker-Nadal...

Roddick vs El Aynaoui was one I almost forgot in my list. That was a timeless classic match.

It isn't, but you are still butthurt 10 years later.

:D Not butthurt at all, phenomenal match just not the hands down greatest like many think. It's up there with a few matches.

Federer had three back to back epics, winning all three would have been insane - would have preferred wins in 07 & 08 and losing 09 to be honest though.

The OP called this thread the greatest matches ever by round. Highly unlikely that all such matches occurred from 2005 onwards. That was my point.
I understand that. But I'm not, nor do I think anyone else, should disqualify themselves from such threads just because they haven't been following tennis for ~60 years.

Now, if someone explicitly said "tennis before 2005 was trash/inferior to the modern game" I would not support that. But again, I can't rank matches based off Wikipedia score lines.
