Grip size

Hi
I currently play with a Head oversized racquet & am demoing the Volkl classic (102 head size) & the Wilson clash 100L. My Head racquet is a 1 grip size (4 & 1/8) with an over grip. Do I get the same grip size in both volkl & the clash or do these brands run differently in terms of the grip size? I’ve always played with head so I want to be sure since I currently have tennis elbow...
Thx!

The grips should all be similar in terms of circumference, but the shape will be noticeably different between Volkl and Wilson. Head has changed from the rectangular pallets to much more square (almost Prince-like) pallets on its newer racuqets. If your Head is old (rectangular), then the current volkl will be more similar to it , but if your head is relatively new (squarer), then the Wilson will be more similar.

oh wow good to know. I bought my head in March of 2022 so almost a year & a half ago...so I guess that means it's newer & that wilson will be more similar right? thx

Maybe you have TE because of very low grip size ?

Good point. 4 1/8 is incredibly small and it's often been suspected that too small a grip size is a contributor to TE.

I've also never found Volkl grip shapes comfortable plus when I played with the V1 Classic while it didn't transmit shock to the arm it was so muted there was no feeling where the ball was on the strings.

Best racquets for TE/GE are midsize, head light, flexible, weighty sticks strung at the lower end of the tension range with anything but a poly.

hmm I wonder if I should go up to 4 & 1/4. My 4 & 1/8 has an over grip on it. Interesting about the volkl. Yeah I'm leaning towards the clash 100 now over the clash 100 L. I've always strung in a multi filament which I'll prob stick to unless I decide to splurge for natural gut

so u mean it could've been grip this whole time?
could have many causes. gripping too tight is.a big one, and smaller grips can cause that for some ppl. one way to experiment with grip size before buying is by adding another overgrip to your current racquet. if that feels good, going one size up might be a good idea.

that's a good idea. so u mean add a 2nd over grip on top of mine currently? If I did go up one grip size, I wouldn't be an over grip though right? I do like having an over grip that I can change once it gets worn & dirty... thx

yes, two overgrips should technically be two grip sizes up, but ime it feels like a little less. if an extra overgrip feels good, before you buy one size larger, I would be go to a racquet shop and hold a racquet with a bigger grip, or better yet, swing a hitting partner's racquet that has one with an overgrip. good luck with your elbow.

thx that's helpful. I'll see if I can try it. thx!
