grip sizes and player size

been wondering about this for awhile...

doesn't seem like the bigger players play bigger racquet grip sizes.... don't have the list in front of me, but i seem to recall that mirnyi and safin don't play any bigger grips than the majority of ATP players. FWIW, nadal is a 2, which is smaller than most. almost all players seem to play with 3 or 4 grip.

should the grip size not go up with the player's size i.e. at the extreme should a player with a 50% larger than average hand play a 50% larger grip? or is there something to do with the weight and size of the racquets that dictates that all sized players play pretty similar grip size.

not sure everything i've said is correct.... i have big hands and i'll been all over grip size continuim and now i'm back to smaller grip (make sure you have a fairly new overgrip though)..

thanks in advance!!

Believe it ot not, a person's height is not, necessarily, directly proportional to the size of her/his hands. I understand 99% of basketball players are requiered to be very tall and to have huge hands and, maybe, this is where the confusion comes from. So, again, believe it or not, there are many short people with large hands and many tall people with small hands.

Edit: In conclusion, you shouldn't relate tennis players' grip size with their heights, imo.

i appreciate the response.... do you really think there isn't a good correlation between people's general size (height especially) and their hand size? i'd say it's a pretty strong relationship.

A local pro tried to tell me that Roger Federer played with a 4 5/8 grip. I was like are you smoking crack? There is no way he plays with that. I asked him what his source was and he said "I saw it on the Internet". It was kind of sad in a way because he was so sure of it.

I wonder what the relationship between grip size and feet size are. Nadal looks like he has small feet.

I wear size 11 shoes and use a 4 5/8th grip size.

i think they are relative for sure, of course there are exceptions to every rule but that doesn't override the original rule of overall size proportions ..

nah. just like the size of penis, the size of hand is not proportional to one's height. ;)
