Grip Sizes

I usually use a 3/8 size grip on my racquet, is 1/2 a big difference? Is it ok to switch racquets and have a different grip size? Im wondering since I might get a deal on a 1/2 grip sized racquet, but i use 3/8.
Would it effect my play if I hit with a 1/2 sized racquet as a spare or something?

It's only 1/8 difference which is not huge and should not make much of a difference in playing. You would be the best judge though and see how if any difference it makes.

It's not a huge difference--about the same as adding an overgrip to your 4 3/8 grip.

If you don't currently use an overgrip, and the other racquet really is larger, you'll probably only notice it affecting your play on serves and overheads, which will be harder to hit (a larger grip tends to inhibit wrist action).

Most pro shops have a grip sample thing hanging up somewhere in the store that has a sample of each size grip attached. You can grab each one to see how it feels to easily find the best size.

Who knows--it could be that 4 1/2 is your right size and 4 3/8 is too small.

for me going from a 3 to a 4 is a big jump. i own racquets with both because they both are the right size for my hand, but the 3/8 just feels a lot more natural. make sure you check it out because not being comfortable with your handle size will cause lots of problems.

Ok, I do hit with an overgrip over my 3/8 now, but the thing is i think i might want to put an overgrip over the 1/2 too. Its a for sale racquet i saw, do you guys think I should buy it or pass? The racquet is great but the grip size is wrong.

Haha, I play around with a 25" racket sometimes, with a size 3 7/8 grip. It's actually good practice, because if you don't absolutely NAIL the sweetspot the racket twists out of your hands. Good training aid.

Why don't you do this--wrap a second overgrip over your current racquet and go play with that to get an idea what the next size up would feel like.

If you like the feel the same or better, then get it, and if you don't, then don't.

Don't let the fact that it's a good deal influence you into getting it if it's not what you want.

Whether or not you buy that one, another one will come along in 4 3/8 soon enough that's an equally good deal, or probably even better!
