Groundstroke break down?

Rookie
I played tennis just now. 2 matches, 1 doubles and a singles match after that. I won the doubles 6-3. However, right after that, i played singles and i lost 6-2. The main reason is that during the singles game, my forehand started to shank alot and find the net. My backhand was hitting the net more than ever and kept going long. Does this ever happen to anyone of you people?

This completely ridded me of all shanking problems, haven't framed a ball since reading this.

Practice and get into the habit of doing what is explained in the link... will help ya tremendously

Another interesting thing I have heard about pulling your head is it's relationship to personality. N(intuitive thinkers, big picture people) on the briggs myers will have more of a tendency to get ahead of themselves when ball striking and move their head to see where the ball is going. S(senses, more in the moment, practical people) will be more likely to keep their head still, taking one ball at a time. Serena is an S I know.

My problems, might be yours, is you and I lose our balance and early shoulder turn when we don't think about it.
Also, for doubles, you need net skimmers hit firmly. But for singles, it's a different shot! Need more net clearance and don't need the really firm slices that you need in doubles, so hit it higher and softer, but use the depth to your advantage, since there is no netman standing ready to poach.

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to hit higher and swing faster? That was you can still get depth, spin and power. As opposed to hitting softer which in return would allow more balls to be easily attacked, even if its deep, slow balls are easily attackable

Hitting higher and swing faster works if you have topspin both sides. Me, I don't, so swinging faster on the slice backhand doesn't keep the ball low over the net.
It's easy to tell OP what to do....hit higher in singles. But it's hard for OP and me to change my game in the middle of a set.
Of course, if you hit too low, raise your shots.
And if you hit too long, add more topspin or relax your grip.
