Given his awesome form in Sydney, and his improved backcourt game/movement/volleys, and considering he beat Hewitt, Berdych and Stepanek...
How far can he go this year?
Top 50/20? Semifinals @ Wimbledon?
More ATP titles?
I'VE GOT GUCCIONE FEVER!!!!!
Who is with me???

top 30 maybe?

man he is playing good though

if he can improve court movement and footwork more
his groundies will become more consistent and that will really help him

I'd say he has a better game than Karlovic though
plus he's a lefty

ive had guccione fever for 3 years :p

I really like his game, he can with his big serve and volley game cause alot of problems. Good serve and volleys can always give anybody problems. I think alot of his points need to be really short, because his body doesnt seem able to grind out from the baseline aganist the world's best.

The secret behind his success this year- Serving and a tad better movement. Once his serve goes off he's got no back up plan. He's one dimensional but he's very good at what he does- serve. If he gets a low volley return he's got no chance. He needs etter groundstrokes... which is why he plays so many tiebreakers. ONce he gets better groundies he'll be a pretty good player. Still needs to improve his volleys- the easy ones he has no toruble, they are very reliable but I cringe when he tries to stretch for a volley. Top 50 at at the moment I reckon, last year he made the Adelaide final but then dropped off the boil really.

I've never seen him play, how does his serve/volley compare with Arthurs or Rafter ?

Since he has a lefty serve it is comparable to Arthurs. However it is probably better than Arthurs's serve because it is faster and he is a tad taller. His serve would have to be up there with the best in the world... Nadal played him last year I think and he's like "amazing". Thats it to Gucc's game unfortunately. His volley's are average... puts away the easy returns he gets but if he gets a half decent return he has a bit of trouble. If you get it down to his shoe laces he's no chance. However, he has improved quite a lot- he has been working on his serve and volley's a lot and because that is the type of game he is going to play mostly (serve volley) it is a good move to just improve his strengths even more. However, before improving his strengths he needs to have at least acceptable groundstrokes. His groundstrokes would have to be one of the worst in the top 130. Inconsistant, cannnot sustain a rally and can't return serve as well. Sure he can fluke a spectacular winner but his grounstrokes need improving... if he doesn't he'll end up playing tiebreakers for the rest of his life because he cannot break anyone with his shodding returning.

However he has improved quite a bit since last year IMO and he will probably do well at Wimbledon. Tactically he's improved a bit as well. Still youngish, hopefully he'll be able to carry Australia after Llleyton gives it up.

I'm afraid we won't see him again after the Aussie season, same as last year when he pushed Novak in the Adelaide final and then dissapeared for the rest of the year. Awesome serve though

it is true that his game has improved a lot since last year. however, whenever he has chances to break and has opportunities, say on a second serve, most of the time, he fails to even put the ball back into play to pressure his opponent. this has happened a lot during his matches in sydney.

however, since last year or the year before, his ground game has improved immensely. he can now actually sort of compete with top players, and his backhand is now a much better shot. find him a top quality coach, and i think he will go far.

GO THE GOOCH! beat tursonov!!!

Well I heard he's been working with a coach from the AIS..
So I guess that's why he's improved so much..

Well sure his return game isn't perfect..
But with a serve like that... Hooray for tiebreakers!!!
If he keeps on going he'll be top 40 at least & have 1000 aces
by the end of the year.

That's only because you're an american and the Sydney International was either not on TTC or you don't have TTC...
I'll take his serve over Roddick's anyday...
Right, I don't have TTC. However, my nationality has nothing to do with anything. I've never followed or rooted for/against players based on their nationality. Don't push your negative traits onto others.

when I saw Goodch live a few years ago, he just had a serve, ok volleys which could get sloppy at times, and wayward groundstrokes. Last year he improved and this year Gooch seems to have improved even more since a year ago and since Wimbledon last year when he led Davydenko 2 sets to 0 before blowing it. His volleys seem to have really improved. He used to hit some clumsy lazy volleys, but they seemed rocks solid this week. On the Baseline hes also playing better. Tursinov was too solid and too mobile once the rallys went more than a few shots, but Gooch seems to be doing pretty well at knowing when to attack and come to net behind a big shot. He seems pretty instinctive at coming to net behind his shots and doesnt mind taking some risks. He also hit some pretty good forehands to open up the court and no wild forehands 3 meters past the baseline like he was doing the last few years. The main weakness in his game is the return of serve, especially on the backhand, he does pretty well with the forehand return. He seems to try to absolutely bash a big topsin backhand with a huge swing on 200 km/hr first serves or on 2nd serves and just wastes chances by hitting them out instead of just trying to get it in the court. I think he might cause a few more upsets this year.

Hopefully, he can revive Serve and Volley and proves that it is still possible to Serve and Volley in this era. Might have to stay back on the second serves as the returns are just too ferocious as Tursnov was just all over it in the finals. Hopefully, he does well next week and meet Fed in the round of 16...

Hmm... So how many people think he can challenge Fed or even get to the 4th round?
