That time of the tournament again. Anyone who wants to take a guess at who will be the chair umpire for the men's singles final at Roland Garros go ahead. I will post the answer some time before the match. Have fun.

No one from SWE or ESP. Our own Woodrow would be the obvious TT's choice, but the French hate us. Maria did it last year, IIRC. Nadal will be delighted to know it is not going to be Ramos, since he is not in the poll.

I'll go with Mourier. The frenchies will want one of theirs, Pascal did it last year and I don't recall Nouni ever umping a GS final (or late rounds, QF+, but I could be mistaken here.)

Woodrow, why does the ITF website only list these umpires as grand-slam umpires: Louise Engzell (SWE), Jake Garner (USA), Alison Lang (Great Britain), Pascal Maria (France), Enric Molina (Spain) and Carlos Ramos (Portugal)

??

Do you know?

Is there a special "class" for them that they have to reach or something?

The ITF hires a few umpires on full time. Believe it or not, there are only about 15 "Full Time" salaried chair umpires in the world. The rest of us are all independent contractors.

The ITF's group of full time chair umpires are called the ITF Grand Slam Team of Chair Umpires. They are contracted for a certain number of weeks per year. The majority of their weeks are the ITF events (Grand Slams, Davis Cup, Fed Cup, Hopman Cup). They also spend a few weeks a year teaching certification schools for up-coming chair umpires.

I just have a question for you Woodrow - do you know which chair umpire it's gonna be before it gets official? In that case, how long before?

Sorry woodrow but I don't think it will be you  I'm hesitating between Carlos Bernardes and Cedric Mourier with Pascal Maria as my 3rd choice.

Well, I'd really like to cast my vote for Woodrow but I'm under the impression you are not eligible?

I'm going with the voice from below, Kader!

Anyone but Jake Garner. Bad memories from the last US Open. I'm going with Pascal Maria.
make your words mine.
Carlos Bernardes
This guy made to vital mistakes. One was that famous Blake VS Gonzo at the Olympiad and the other was just yesterday when He call out a ball that wa sin as the shot spot confirmed on Djokovic VS Melzer that would have given Djokovic 0X30(someone can clarify this one?)
Yes he is allowed to.
Why is He not umpiring??
He is the best by far.

Kader Nouni

Bernardes has no chance after blowing them calls in the quarters, he is not in form for a GS final

Woodrow...have you ever officiated a Grand Slam Final Match?
I chaired the women's doubles final at the US Open in 2007, the mixed doubles final at the US Open in 2004 and the boys singles final at the US Open in 2000.

Called lines for the Sampras v. Hewitt final and the Roddick v. Ferrero final.

Since you did answer some questions in the thread, but not mine, I will repeat it (if you didn't notice it):

Wood... you never fail at this, so can you explain why Ramos is not a poll option? just ignorantly curious!

Maybe he was fired because he dared to warn poor Rafito (twice) for time wasting.

Poor Rafito... now under fire by a Portuguese Umpire being paid by the Swedish Mafia...

tsk tsk...

Hah, good try, but you don't fool us with that Swedish Mafia drivel.

We all know you are Carlitos' second cousin and are blackmailing him with that pictures at uncle Joao's wedding party :oops: so he messes up with poor Rafito's concentration.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you.

10 Cocidos á Portuguesa...

ps: that suit he used for the wedding was gastly... it's well deserved my blackmail actions!

As long as its not Ramos.

He may be Spanish but he routinely calls Nadal out on time abuse, i guess to prove he is unbiased.

Carlos Ramos is the only umpire with bals to call Rafa on his disrespect for rules...

and he is not Spanish!

Sorry, missed that one. I knew yesterday. Usually around quarterfinal time.

How about to invite Roger Federer to judge this fantastic return match for championship? It'll be great! ;)
