Guess the NTRP Rating

It's very hard to judge, because we saw maybe 1 or 2 groundstrokes in the whole video. His serve is nice, but the video is lacking.

Hard to tell from the small sample size but I would guess 5.0 give or take a half point.

Edit:

After watching the second video, these guys are definitely 5.5 plus. It looks like a 40's open tournament.

It was very hard to look at their strokes, footwork, etc. what with the single digit fps.....

I would guess anywhere above 4.5, leaning towards a higher number.

The camera angle is really bad...

Notice how small the court looks lengthwise, and short, it really visually takes pace and depth off a ball.

I would say that these guys are 4.5-5.0, maybe higher. I would need a better/longer clip and a better camera angle.

Seeing how effortless the guy is serving, and from the looks of it a very fast serve - it wouldn't surprise me that the guy serving is a tour player. My personal rating is close to a 6.0+ player

I can only rate the server and that too not much to look at other than the serve. If the server plays an entire match like these 3 points then:

His serve seems very good and on first impression, I think in Socal, he would crush 4.5s. Definitely 5.0+ and would not be surprised if the server is an ex college level player or 5.5-6.0. Gotta see atleast 10 more points to determine that.

at 54 seconds, the first serve did not miss by much and judging by the speed at the backstop that serve was 105+ mph and also had a good amount of topspin action on it. Leads me to think that he could get a very decent percentage of first serves at 100+ mph.

His second serves were very good too, and a decent first volley on the second point.

His backhand passing shot on the first point was too flat (not enough topspin), probably the only thing in the video that is a negative against the server.

I'm going on a lower end of the spectrum and saying 4.5 simply because I don't like to give the 5.0 rating out alot. But, of course, these guys could easily be higher (hard to tell with the FPS being so low)

Seeing the second clip, I say 5.0+.

OP: Are you in this clip? Or the camera man?? Because after you posted the link to the second vid clip, I saw that there were 0 views...meaning that you probably uploaded that clip to youtube, so are you one of the tennis players in those two clips??

I think I'll raise mine to 5.0 or higher as well. Still, really tough to tell based on the terrible framerate.

Kidding. 5.0's. Just a guess, though. Too hard to tell. I'm guessing they are less erratic without a camera on? THe returner seems jittery against a guy with not that big a serve. Maybe he was just hard to read.

BTW, I love that little miniature Stonehenge thing the cameraman was focusing on. I know Jolly's calling that an amateur move, but I think the guy was going for an artsy French vibe there.

They are good players. The server had a great serve with a lot of kick that would give many 4.5's fits. I would say they are in the 5.0 area. As far as competition, they could very well compete in a 4.5 level with players playing down, or local open tourny's with players not playing down.

The main drawback of the server was that he was a bit to casual in his footwork. However, what I don't know is how long they have been playing.

With volleys and serves like that, they have good looking educated strokes.

ok, maybe not... but still :D id probably give em 5+, wish i coulda seen more groundstrokes tho

I know that this doesn't carry much weight in the TW world, but I have never met, played against, or seen a player who had volleys like that who didn't have a good enough ground game to get the job done.

Sure, they aren't world beaters off the ground, but every single high level SV player had enough of a ground game to keep them in points until they could get to the net.

i get the impression that you were thinking i was meaning that he couldnt hit off the ground, thats why he went to the net. thats not what i meant at all, i woulda just liked to see some groundstrokes, lol, honestly i think watching S&V is the boringest thing ever, but i could tell by his approach shots and volleys that he was a baller

4.5- lower 5.0..


The server can volley but his serve don't seem to big. Looks like he playing with a 85. Against good 5.0's that return well it's tough for that style to win.

Just saw the second video. It should be edited into the OP, because the first video is pretty misleading if don't you watch through the other video.

They are both 5.0+ if you watch the second video, and shaky 5.0's in the first video.

former pro's is my guess. no 5.0 can possibly play at that level.

the video is shot from a distance, hand held. thus the shaky picture.

Love the video btw.. but here's a question for folks... do you believe fresh compeitive college players ( like top fifteen schools) can take on these pros? Because in today's game, its all about the big shots... think these pros' can physically handle it?

I thought I recognized Keil. Darker hair than I remembered, but....well, same hard-to-read-but-not-that-huge serve as he had in college.

Is he coaching Ryan? OR were they just hitting?

Keil was here playing a tourney that I usually play in every year but I haven't played recently due to a nagging shoulder injury so I figured I would go and get some footage since I wasn't playing. Ryan Stotland however used to attend the Univ. of New Mexico where he played at the #1 and #2 spot. Ryan ended up winning the match as well as the tournament. He's been playing futures and challengers and has had some pretty good results in the doubles events (I think he's won a few). He's got a big time serve and volley game. Huge serve in the 120's and nice crisp volleys to follow. I wanted to get footage of the guy who I thought was going to win and has won this event several times just so I could post it and watch people rate him at a 4.0. Keil also has a throwback serve and volley game. Not a huge serve but it had enough action on it to give people problems. He looks like he's in pretty darn good shape and lost a lot of weight. In fact the match he played against Ryan would have been closer had he not played a lengthy nail biter in the previous round a few hours earlier against yet another very good ex UNM player.
