Might as well put up a poll for old time's sake.

Given his trajectory with not only rehabbing but then getting into competitive shape to not embarrass himself here's what I formulated with some room for error:

A: Return on Grass, possibly Stuttgart, definitely Halle and Wimbledon. Hit Cincinnati, USO, please the Chinese overlords and retire at Basel.
B: Return for Laver Cup, play some smaller tournaments in Europe including Basel, maybe Paris then AO and retire at Wimbledon.
C: Make announcement at Laver Cup, return at Basel and gear up for 2023 making all relevant stops for fan sendoff, including clay. Retire at Basel.

Have you considered he has already played his last match as an option ?

I think of surgery goes well he makes it at AO. If not , I believe he is not going to come back

I dunno. If he can recover his 2019 form then he could play another 2-3 years.

If he can't get back there, he plays a limited schedule next year and hangs it up.

No, speaking as someone who faced serious tennis injury and saw many semi-pro and ATP (lower level) players recover from surgery, I remain convinced Roger has been dealing with meniscus issues although if it is degenerative cartilage, etc then yeah it's over but like with 2020 AO there are certain movements he's still able to make that even in THAT worst case scenario I'd still see him trotting out there for Laver and Basel. And let me tell you the ticket prices would be significantly higher not to mention the hype. I think he has enough guile not to be double bageled.

Maybe he'll return at Doha like he did this year. I don't count out an earlier attempted comeback. Australia seems way too early, though.

A surgery & rehab will atleast take 6 months. So he will probably return around march and test his knee in Dubai or IW then Will take break and regroup for Grass season with stuttgart,Halle and wimbledon.

If he can get back to his 2019 form in 2022 then he will play till 2024-2025

No need to think of retirement if his knees hold, his reflexes are still pretty good.

That's maybe being generous, but Dubai seems like a good place to return for a number of reasons, and I can't see him coming back for that and then sitting back till the grass courts. I feel like Uniqlo would surely want him in Tokyo too, so maybe throw that in there as well.

Him not going back to Australia ever again seems an impossibility to me, so I'm not convinced just yet that it'll quite be a 2022 farewell.

Yes that looks about right and he won’t go back to OZ open again

Federer would most likely want to have as good a performance at Wimbledon as possible, and he'd want to have some match play before the grass season. No clay in the cards, but he could try a few HC tourneys, Dubai and IW maybe. Halle and Wimby alsmost surely, if he is physically okay. And then Basel could be it. Not sure he'd risk the knee with even that many tournaments plus his ranking would make draws less favorable for the first rounds.

I’m a fed fan of sorts and have lost complete interest in his retirement or plans etc. He’s basically semi retired imo anyway and it’s gotten boring.

Federer will never play another match on the atp tour again. It breaks my heart to say that, but it's the truth. His exact words were I will spend MANY months on crutches. To me that means 6 months at least on crutches which debunks the idea that he is dealing with a meniscus problem. 2019 was his farewell tour and we just didn't know it. He played unbelievable tennis in 2019 and should've won his 9th Wimbledon and 21st slam title beating Nadal and Djokovic back to back at the age of 37 just a few weeks from being 38. Nobody will play tennis at that level at that age ever again in my opinion. We need to except the fact that he's done as a pro player and just be thankful that we had all these years to enjoy this great legend ❤
