Gut mains vs. Multi mains

I've been using 16g TF Multifeel mains in my poly crossed hybrids but I'm blowing through the mains, my question is whether or not gut mains would be more durable. I currently use CF 17 for the x's. Thinking of switching to tonic 16 mains and co-focus 1.18 x's. Any thoughts?

Yes gut mains will be more durable, and also more spin friendly.

The reason is the lower coefficient of friction between gut mains and poly crosses, as you can see here: http://twu.tennis-warehouse.com/learning_center/COFreporter.php

In general, nylon is the string material with the highest friction. That explains the low spin potential and lots of string movement.

Ive read your multi thread. Is there a multi you would suggest in this hybrid?

You could try Head RIP Control 16 or Prince Premiere Attack 16. Seems like there are some users like KCraig who are getting some nice durability out of Pacific Classic 16 mains with the same co-focus 1.18 crosses you are thinking about.

Yeah. Like I said I have tonic on the way and I know there is no replacement for gut so I wanted to give it a whirl before I decided it was to much $$. I've tried all your usuall suspects. X-1, nrg, MT etc. I just wasn't sure if it was the MF that had bad durability or multi's in general.

I use tonic 15 in the mains, and it feels great and lasts a long time. I really can't tell the difference between 15 and 16 when I am hybriding using gut in the mains. Plus it doesn't tend to wear through as easily due to its thickness.

Thought of using babolat elastocrosses?

Spread out evenly along the middle 6 mains they kept my gut from wearing out quickly (outlasted my poly crosses on average 4+ sets).

They do increase tension by a couple of lbs, and give the bed a (slightly) different feel, but IMO the gut still gave more than any MF I've ever tried - but I'm not MF expert!!!.

Spin wise - I loved them; because they were made from PTFE they seemed to help the mains glide.
