Gut poly hybrid question.

How long does a gut/main poly/cross combo last? I have been using full natural gut the past few days and in a week or two I am going to hybrid. Most people post that's the way to go.

What tension differential should I shoot for? I usually strung the poly between 52-54 lbs in a full bed and went 60 with the gut. Should I keep the poly in the crosses about 10-14% or so lower tension?

I have a few sets of gut coming in the mail, some are 16g and one is 17g. If using 16g gut in mains and 17g in poly should tension be adjusted to account for different gauges as well?

It really depends on the type of gut and the poly you use. Textured poly's will cut into the gut and so they won't last as long. I use Babolat VS and RPM and the durability is great. I have also done Wilson NG and Lux ALU Power with similar results. Also, If you go cheap not the gut (ex.KLIP(, it won't last very long.

Whether you use textured string or not might not shorten the life. I often use Lux ALU Rough and seems to last a good while. ALU rough compared to RPM Blast and ALU Rough has less tension loss, more power, less string to string friction, and more power than RPM. Looking at the compare String Tool RPM Blast Rough is even better in those categories than ALU Rough. I’ve always thought that may be a good cross.

Tectured with sharp edges like Tecnifibre 4S may be a bad idea though.

I have been using the yonex round poly with Klip in the mains and it has been lasting pretty well (understand I hit kinda flatish even though I try for topspin)
I have a yonex vcore 100 that has had the same string in it for over a month now with over 3X a week play and the mains still look pretty good.

So since the polyester string will go dead long before the gut breaks normally, how many hours can you actually expect to get out of a good gut / poly hybrid without a noticeable loss in performance? 15 hours? 20 hours? 30 hours? More?

I don't know exactly. But FWIW, it feels as though I get about one week(10hrs?l out of full Poly, with like between hours 2-6 being the best.

With gut main/poly cross, the dropoff seems much more gradual. It seems like three weeks or more before I want to cut it out.
