H22 and Blade Pro Grommets Compatible?

I have a pro stock Dunlop frame that is a replica of the H22 18x20 (player switched sponsors, kept the same mold). The grommets are a little chewed up, but still have plenty of life left in them. I just want a cleaner look and to protect the frame. Does anyone know if the 18x20 Blade Pro grommets will fit a H22 mold? I've heard the 16x19 are not compatible, but can't find any info on the 18x20.

Well, I ordered the grommets. I'll post an update once I compare them. It may be a while before I install them / break strings.

Careful with that.

Rumor has it, that the grommets don't sit flush on the frame if going from the Pro to the H22. As of now, we haven't tested that out on our end.

But if you remove the grommet on your current frame to test the theory and it doesn't work, you won't be able to put the original grommet back on the racquet. So you'll be down a racquet.

Update: Most of the holes line up pretty well, but but ones on the sides don't seem to quite line up. I've included a quick video below. I've reached out to some of my contacts and the going theory for my frames is that Dunlop got hold of an older Wilson H22 mold/drill pattern and the Blade Pro has the "newer" drill pattern which doesn't line up. The going rate for the grommets I need is $100+ per set, not factoring in shipping, etc.

I'm debating on trying it anyway with my backup plan being to clip the Blade Pro grommets such that I'd have to jigsaw them into place. Once strung, it would not matter since the strings will hold everything in place. If that fails, I'll cough up the dough to get the legit ones.

If the Blade Pro grommets do not sit flush, well... that's going to be another headache itself. From my experience replacing grommets, I've seen these types flatten out/hug the frame once installed. Then again, this is uncharted territory for me. It will probably be a few more weeks before I have to restring either of them. If I go through it with, I'll post another update and include a video of how it looks.

I've also discovered that there's lead tape under the grommets. These frames have 5" of lead (4 strips total) at/slightly above 3 & 9 o'clock and I suspect two more 5" strips at 12 & silicone gel in the handle. They're 12.3oz,/350g and 4pts HL. They are more cumbersome to use than the Percept 97H I had with a leather grip, even though the 97H had a heavier static weight -- which makes sense because it was way more HL.

*edited, can't get my name to stop showing up in the google album, will post video as soon as I find a work around*

Almost any H22 you get will have been customized for a professional player. The one I have has puddy in the handle and some weight in the hoop. I am not taking the grommets off, because I have really not heard of anyone getting a replacement for them. Just a fun stick to collect and go out and hit occasionally.

In regard to 16x19 Blade Pro grommets...can anyone assist on v7 vs v8 or 9 grommet use? (grommets WR8425600 vs WRG059700 or others)...can they be interchanged at all? "59700 are very difficult to find and expensive, so if the newer "staple grommet" setup will fit, I would definitely change over to that..

With the Pro Labs Blade Pro, they did not change anything aside from the v3 to v4 cosmetic. The v4 grommets should fit the v3 frame. I have had no issues putting v4 grommets on the v3 18x20. My H22... well, that's another story. Finally broke a string so I'm debating on risking it.

Conclusion: The Blade Pro 18x20 grommets do not fit my H22. Mine has an older drill pattern. With that being said, I managed to make them work with some redneck engineering. It's not pretty, but it is functional. The grommets are protecting the string so I don't anticipate any weird off center breakage. If you're ever considering doing this, I cut it into 5 separate pieces. Starting from the side, I cut after 5th hole, cut after the 7th hole (so just a small plastic piece with 2 grommets), and left the center 14 in tact.

Saying another way: cut 8T & 9T on both sides into their own piece and everything fits. Yes, there will be gaps. Does this look better than an old chewed up grommet? Meh, but at least I've protected the exposed graphite.

It seems like the drill patterns for the new H22s (version v8 and v9) are the same as the prolab blades. How old is your H22 version?
The atp guy that owned these used to use the H22 in the Burn PJ before he switched to Dunlop. So he’s using a drill pattern that’s close to, if not more, than 10 years old.

This is not true btw. It's close but the drill holes are not exactly aligned. The 16x19 pro stock H22 still has a tighter spacing than the retail BP.

So, if you did have a newer V8 or V9 H22, I would only try this if you absolutely need new grommets, but be prepared to have to cut them to fit the frame.

What about for H22 18x20? I put the 18x20 pro labs grommets on the H22 v8 today and it fits. Only difference is that the bumper doesn't have the Wilson logo on it anymore.
