Had Federer won the Semi against Djokovic

He still could have won the Final against Nadal quite easily. How poor he played yet he just lost the match by the narrowest margin. And how much effort Djokovic has to put in for the win. Federer was back to his normal in the 5th set and if he had contiued that form in the Final. There was no chance that Nadal Could beat him.

Unfortunately Rog would have been spanked if he played like he did today. The Fed of 94-06 would have won though.

Nadal against Federer in US Open remains to be seen. Experts had given the edge to Federer over Nadal on these courts. Even verdasco believed that. So what analysts say, should be acknowledged. Whereas Djokovic's play will prove today how Federer could have dealt with Nadal in the final

Odds makers had Rafa as the odds on favorite against Federer.

Can't say I blame them. His backhand would have been getting pummeled. I remember after the 08 Wimby final Roger rubbing his shoulder and stretching his arm after the match before the on-court interview.

One of the points of boards like these is to allow for wild speculations and arguments about things that can never be proven either right or wrong. It makes us feel part of a community. And it increases the interest in the sport. And it generates sales. So, by all means, carry on. I’m listening.

Sadly Federer didn't face Nadal 2004 - 2007 on these courts.

Now prime and improved Nadal is the better player on any court, including the one with his least favorite surface. Fed is not the same player who amassed 11 majors during 2004 - 2007.

yes Fed playing well would beat rafa any day on USO hardcourt, Djokovic as well probably, its just a shame Rafa got such an easy draw its unbelievable, plus fed and djok having an almost 4hour match, Rafa really has it on a plate and if he doesn't win it tomorrow i can't ever see him winning it again.

Please don't make legitimate Federer fans look bad by posting such nonesense. As much as I would like for Fed to win, Nadal is the clear favorite and is very deserving of his number one ranking.

The way to counter your backhand being attacked all day is to attack the net and shorten points. Isnt that why Annacone was brought on board for Federer? Well that appears to be a bust too. I havent noticed any more all court play from Federer.

The odds of Federer playing that poorly in consecutive matches are extremely slim. He most likely would've served far better, at the very least...and I doubt he would have made quite as many errors.

That said, Nadal probably still edges him out in 5.

It's tricky, all we can say for sure is this- for the first time in the decade, Nadal fulfilled his part of the US Open bargain and Federer didn't.

Djokovic played brilliantly, and quite Nadal-like actually, using his brilliant movement to get some of Fed's most penetrating shots back, and back with enough mustard that Federer started trying to paint the lines, and missed. And oh my god how he missed! 65-70 UEs!?

The final is between the two players who most deserve to be there, it's a pity Djokovic will be quite tired, as I think with both equally rested this could have been a classic.

Fed can't afford another loss to Nadal so he gave Joker the match. Simple. Coward.
