Worse, one bad point, compared to another player's highlights. As if we couldn't put together a Roddick highlight reel against Federer at Wimbledon.

Djokovic is a better Wimbledon player than Roddick. But this is the absolute worst way to go about it.
Roddick played like a putz more often than not against Federer in slam matches. He played a good match in 2009 against a shaky Fed, but otherwise his performances were patchy and his bad moments meme-like.

False equivalence at its best. Nice error to end the supposed 'highlight', though. I suppose Djoker couldn't hit through a heavily declined Federer.

Djokovic is better but Roddick was still a great grass player when he played well.

So much of this applies to Djokovic too. 2015 was the only real great match he played, and Roger could certainly be described as shaky in that 15 final.

He got outplayed in 2012, and 2014/19 were the definition of patchy performances. He came through because he's an undeniably stronger mental player than Roddick and was facing worse versions of Federer than Andy had.

Thiem will win more and is infinitely more talented than Roddick.

Unfortunately for both, they faced a tough top tier, even if the overall depth is lower than
than those is the 80's/90's.
I wouldn't go as far as saying infinitely more talented than Roddick. The guy is pretty bad on faster courts for starters. If you call standing 10 meters behind the baseline and whacking the ball infinitely more talented, then that's just your subjective view.

The fact that Thiem may win more doesn't change the fact that he is lucky to win a slam as of now.

Old bones with powderpuff forehands and restricted movement compared to the actual peak GOATerer and still Djo struggled, roflmao.

peak fedr would have busted djo with a cannonball FH at 0:22 at the latest more often than not

Oh and yes, had 2004/2009 Roddick actually had a chance to play against 2015 Fed, he might have also scored a win instead of playing the prime/peak version.

Again with this. Federer hit 94 winners to 62 errors in 5 sets against Nole in 2019. He was playing great tennis. That too, after beating Nadal the match before. It was a great tournament from him. Ditto for 2015, where he destroyed Murray the match before being cleanly dispatched by Nole.
It may just be that Djokovic outplayed Federer...

Not sure how old you are, BUT perhaps until this AO none of these players have ever even seen a fast court.

And let's be honest, they weren't that fast......just faster than the slow crap that we've seen for the last 20 years.

Even Wimbledon hasn't been fast for ages/decades.

Roddick played well in a number of matches vs Federer. Federer just clutched out the close matches.

Not only is Roddick more talented by virtue of much more reliable weaponry (yes, even pushdick has the serve, shankiem has nothing), but leagues better as a fighter despite struggling in that department himself. Thiem isn't even as good as Carlos Moya.

THREE finals, sir.
The problem with your OP is that it requires Roddick to be infinitely more talented than he was. May as well say, "If Ljubicic played like this (gif of Pete versus Andre in '99 Final) he may have won Wimbledon."

Thiem and Roddick are two sides of the same coin.

Roddick won his only Slam title and was merely 13 weeks as #1 in the pre-prime Federer era. As soon as he faced Federer in Slams, his weak nature showed up.

Thiem won his only Slam title without facing Nadovic.

Thiem has defeated Nadovic in Slams (while Roddick never beat Federer in Slams), but you can argue Thiem faced older versions of Nadovic. Still, Thiem defeated a well-playing version of Novak at RG 2019. Djokovic was "only" 31 and had won the last 3 Slams in a row at RG 2019, he was aiming to achieve the NCYGS. Roddick also pushed 27 years old Federer to 5 at Wimbledon 2009.

All things considered, they are pretty much same stuff in different eras.

That's just an insult to Djokovic. Nothing Roddick has ever produced on a tennis court is close to what Djokovic did in that final. The result of 2014 final shows it was a close match but it really was not. Federer was extremely lucky in that final.

I think Thiem is better tbh. Less dangerous off the serve, but everything else is better on a consistent basis. Roddick was a pusher for the majority of his top 10 career.

I'd put any amount on Thiem vs Roddick, but that's only because we've all seen Roddick's career.
Dude made money, but wasn't a fighter or top competitor as his numbers on the big stage suggest.

He really wasn't that good in a relative sense. He had a serve, but Thiem would crush him on the modern
slow courts, just like many other top players did a handful of years back.

Go back to fast courts and Roddick has an edge (serve) but we've never seen either on fast courts.

Your thread jibe/insult at Federer and Roddick. Yes the 2014 final was still close Djokovic won only 6 more points than Federer in the whole match even though he had a mini choke towards the end of the 4th but still it was a well fought match.

roddick was robbed of a wimbledon or two in early 2000s due to the slowed down grass and before fraud got into his head by beating him repeatedly on homogenized grass.........i honestly think roddick would have defeated fraud at least once if 2003/2004 played like 90s grass.........

If Roddick played on fast grass he would have been destroyed by Pete in the 90s, and most likely Fed as well.

Modern slow courts? Like Roddick wasn't playing the modern game, ha. There haven't been significant tour-wide changes since mid-00s, although individual tournaments keep making tweaks so the pace map varies.

It's silly to pencil Thiem to dominate Roddick anywhere off clay as he's not going to return Rod's serve reliably at all unlike say Murray, and Thiem himself is inconsistent enough that Roddick could break him without pulling mad shots off the ground even.

Not sure. My money would be on the S/V players before the courts (all slams) were slowed.

He should consider himself lucky to own a single title, IMO.

i am not transporting roddick back to the 90s, just saying how he would have fared if 2003/2004 played like 90s grass........
I see. I would still favor Fed over him. Too much game for Roddick's unidimensionality.

because it isn't true. There is no version of Roddick with a prayer of a chance against Nole who beat Federer in Wimbledon finals. Nole will return his serve much better than Fed, and once the point starts even mythical God-Roddick of 2004 won't stand a chance against Nole. His best chance is 2012 Nole who still hadn't figured out how to move on the surface.

Oh, and I can't wait for someone to bring up the head to head. Go ahead
