Legend
So my friend and I were two of the lucky people picked for the coin toss at Cincy this past weekend.
We did the night quarterfinal match between Halep and Radwanska.
Among the swag they gave us we were also allowed to sit on court (literally on the freaking court)!!!
It was where the photographers sit to take pictures of the players and we could literally reach out and tap Radwanska on the shoulder during change overs.
Sitting that close was pretty cool and leagues better than even a few rows back in the stands.
Once the womens match was over Murray and Tomic played, they decided to let us stay for that match too!!!!!!!!!!!!
Observations:
General: The speed and skill both men and women possess is amazing during match play.
Balls that when watching at any other angle I would usually think are "out" can be seen as clearly "in" at court level.
Halep: Cute as a button and a really nice person. She acknowledged us, said hello, and seemed fairly approachable given the situation. Them legs look amazing up close!
She hits with a lot of spin especially on the forehand. Her second serve is way too slow and she really needs to work on it.
Radwanska: Would not say hi or hardly even acknowledge us. Maybe she was zoned out or in a bad mood, I dont know. She is much skinnier in person than she looks on TV.
She hits very flat, its almost amazing to see how flat she hits the ball and can rally so long without making an error. Her second serve is way to slow as well, need to work on that.
Tomic: Tall skinny guy. He can hit hard but its really cool to see him "massage" the ball. Its like he has this ability to hold the ball on his racquet a split second longer than other people to decide what he wants to do with it.
Very cool customer on court. He showed very little emotion. Did not talk to himself, his box, the crowd, or the chair (outside of a question on change over).
Murray: Absolutely freaking HILARIOUS!!!! Most of us know he is a talker-whiner-complainer, but very few of us get to hear everything uneditied or censored. Sitting that close we heard everything and it was comedy gold. Andy talks (and swears alot) to himself, his box (poor suckers really got it), and the chair very frequently. The more things dont go his way the funnier the comments get.
He hits more aggressively than I thought and can come up with some amazing shots.
He also stayed after the match for quite a while to sign autographs and even take pictures with fans. I think he made sure to sign every single autograph someone asked for. It was impressive and nice to see him do that so he definitely earned fan points with both myself and my friend for that.
Overall it was the experience of a lifetime and so glad we did it.
On another note another person in our group got the call to do the coin flip for the mens final on Sunday and the dumb SOB did not answer the phone!!!! By the time he tried to call back it was too late.
We could have slapped him for that!
